Tumbled Towers, Humbled Hearts
by Marilyn Wilkerson

T’was a bright and sunny day
The American dream was in reach
For people living on the prairies,
In the mountains, near the beach

And that’s where our minds were
Not on our God up above
Not on our needy neighbors
Nor of reaching out in love

Lives changed in an instant
As the tall towers tumbled
What could we do to help
Forever hearts were humbled

We stood in lines to give blood
Prayed for our nation’s peace
Waved our flags, sang and cried
Listened to the President speak

What we mustn’t do now, you know
Is go back to the way that it was
For our world will never be the same
Now that so many shed their blood

We’ve discovered heroes among us
We just cannot forget those who died
Nor can we assume our own safety
Or forget how our country cried

A tragedy taught us to be
What our forefathers thought all along
One nation brought together
By loss, by love and by song

Very good work! Oddly, I watched a special on the Discovery Channel about the Twin Towers. I've also seen things about Rescorla...I don't know if I'm spelling his name right, but he was a very honorable man. Anyway, the Twin Towers is an event that will never be forgotten, but also needs to be learned from and put behind ourselves. The people who did the crashing are dead, the people that caused it are probably dead, and the war in Iraq is completely pointless, because it's only gotten the U.S. into some crazy thing with Iran too, caused religious havoc, lost the lives of thousands of soldiers and millions of innocent people, when the U.S. should be minding their own business and either boot these illegal Mexicans or make 'em legal and pay taxes! This world should be focusing on slowing down global warming, making solar energy and water turbines along with wind miles more popular and...*mumble mumble* Anyway, I can really rant about the war in Iraq, along with global warming so I better get back on track with this comment...

Your choice of words was superior, as was your flow in this piece. It reads nicely, and tells a venerated story wonderfully. Oddly, did you know I was on a boat delivery with my father exactly one month before these towers fell?

P.S. On a more immediate front, did you notice those of PnP in the early days commented terribly and were picky about praise?

It's hard to imagine that within 50 years or so, those who are yet to be born won't "feel" this the way we do. But I hope we can keep that spirit of unity and fellowship alive and pass it along to the future.
