I really love this poem! I cannot make rhymes for my life, so I would've given you high praise just for that. But you also used a clear picture to get your point across, and let me tell you, you didn't just get it across; you thrust it in our faces and made us see it. I really like how you refused to be a pawn at the end. It's not good for people to view others as a pawn, because everyone has real feelings and emotions. I would also say that if you want to compare love to chess, love is a war then, because that's all chess is.
It is a game, and one I'm tired of playing. I've made my "moves" and sit waiting for the next. There are times I wish the game were over, and times I feel like playing again. I like how you won in the end. I guess I'm not saying anything new that everyone else has not already said... I liked it... just like everyone else did.
great poem yet again, again the use of metaphors is a touch of brilliance..my favourite verse is the last one
"But now I know your strategy.
I'll avoid what had been fate.
I'm not a pawn for you to use.
I've left for good, checkmate!"
and also these 3 lines really made an impact "With many pawns at hand
To jump and take as you see fit,
To move at your command." like how he/she uses things as if theyre nothin but pieces on a board. keep it up
Tammy, Love is a game, or like in chess it can be a war. Sometimes we all make a move that comes back to haunt us. Sometimes we are better off losing. Greg Kis
As has been said, a wonderful use of metaphors.
All of life is a game, this is especially true of the mating game.
I really liked the last stanza, you knocked his King off the board.
Keep making the right moves.
Brian.
Great metaphors and good story. Also well rhymed, just my kind of poem. Well done.
Some time ago I wrote a piece along the same topic as yours, except without the metaphors. Take a look http://www.prose-n-poetry.com/display_work/14736
I love the metaphoric style used in this poem to state what you are saying. I got the picture loud and clear and I am a big fan of metaphors too. I like how you got smart in the end and played him or her at their own game, cool B
