The Sweater
by Amelia Z. (Age: 16)
copyright 07-29-2006

Age Rating: 1 to 127

In my closet hangs a sweater,
It's red, and blue, and green.
It's absolutely hideous,
A thing like never seen.
I'd never ever wear it,
Cause all the kids would tease.
And as she slipped it on me,
I begged upon my knees.
Mother please don't make me!
I promise I'll be good!
I'll do all of my chores,
You know I really would!
She turned to me and sighed,
I knew I'd lost this fight
She glared at me and said,
"It's not a pleasant sight.
But your grandma knit this sweater,
She made it with her love.
I know that you can't see her,
But she's watching from above.
You need to wear this sweater,
To show her that you care.
Because, she loved you deeply,
So don't you even dare!
You'll wear this to you picture day!
You hear me little missy?"
She gazed at me and snorted,
She was acting rather prissy.
I rolled my eyes at this,
And clutched the sweater tight.
For in my heart I knew,
She was very very right.
My grandma, she did love me,
This was nothing very new.
So yes I wore the sweater,
There was nothing I could do!
The kids at school they teased me,
For years and years to come.
I hope that they forget real soon,
If not I blame my mum!

Another entertaining poem, good work! I've been reading a lot of dark lately, so this is a nice change. Well, I haven't been getting online much with all the school work I've been loaded up with recently. But, it's almost Christmas vacation! I've started a new book/story called "Flights of Fantasy" so that's been sucking up my time...anyway, it's time I boosted my commenting ratio! I like to think commenting on the work of Silver Writers will help them become Gold Writers sooner and get all the praise and comments they deserve. :) I can relate to this a bit with the grandparents stuff...I had to wear a dress a few years ago that my grandmother bought me even though I hated it to please her when we went out to dinner... I'm a tomboy, so it went against my morals! Great work, keep writing!

The rhyming is good and the topic sincere. This is really cute. I'm sure we've all, at one time or another, been given that gift that we're afraid our friends will see, but Grandma's do love us, so their gifts are always special.
Nice work with this one.
