Building Stuff
by David Pekrul
copyright 07-17-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

In technology I’m crippled,
Not mechanically inclined,
I am useless with a hammer,
I am all of these, combined.

With my hands I am so useless,
Building stuff is not my thing,
I could never fix an engine,
Now, what talents do I bring?

I have never been an artist,
And I know I cannot sing,
I’m a pretty lousy actor,
In the entertainment ring.

I have always ‘pushed a pencil’,
Always sat behind a desk,
Many years I worked in “Travel”,
It’s enough to get depressed.

But they say we have a purpose,
And I know I must have mine,
Since retired, I work a little,
Often, though, I just recline.

Maybe one day I will find it,
That one thing that I can do,
Something I will find exciting,
Something special to pursue.

But ‘till then I’ll keep on looking,
For I know it must be there,
And I know that I will find it,
But right now, I’m unaware.

Dave, One thing you do very well is make us think. Your imagination has been cultivated into an art many surely envy.
I've read many of your poems and you have a drive that won't be retired. Greg Kis

:) Brian really DOES have a way with words, doesn't he? lol But I must agree, leave the cars to mechanics, the building to the carpenters, and don't ever lose sight of your pen, or computer, whatever! Keep on plugging away at your poetry that thrills us all!

BJ
Oh, yeah, rhyme and rhythm = A+

Well David, is this a fishing expedition?
You may be a hopeless DIY man, all thumbs with any tools, apart from that ubiquitous pencil.
But as I think you know, you CAN write.
So just keep writing, let the mechanic sort out your car.
Brian.

I understand feeling like what you've got to give can't possibly be enough...the feeling itself doesn't make it truth! I like the poem very much.

That's cute! It reminds me of my Dad. He can't do any hand work! :) But he's worked all his life and just recently retired! He was an entry clerk for 25 years and then a security guard! Relax and enjoy your time off now!

But you're good at lot's of things! And I should know, too, I'm your neighbor. Kay, so first of all you can make wine! And from what my parents say it's really good. And you're good at yardwork, and fixing computers, and a great friend, and hey, look at your page! There's so many poems, I even checked and you've posted more than anyone else! I know it can be hard sometimes to look past your not so good qualities, but once you manage, you find all the good stuff about yourself and can put it to good use!

Anyway, I really liked this piece it had a great rythm and it's just all around cool.
