Faith Without Works

He’s winding down the alley,
It’s just another day,
He’s looking for redemption,
But will he find his way?
He’s hiding out in dumpsters,
And getting high on Smack,
He’s scared of those around him,
Afraid that he'll get whacked.
And then he hears the music,
On tambourine and drum,
For it’s Salvation Army,
They’re telling him to come.
A meal and bed are offered,
With preaching and a song,
Now, I’m not criticizing,
So please don’t get me wrong.
For this is Heaven’s army,
They’re doing as Jesus did,
They’re dining with the sinners,
And those down on the skid.
While others sit in churches,
And hear the preacher speak,
Their ears are being ‘tickled’,
With messages so weak.
Their faith is dead and dying,
If works are never shown,
If ‘church’ is what they're playing,
They might as well stay home.
For church won’t make us Christian,
That comes through God’s own Son,
And then our works will follow,
And do what must be done.
“You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?" James 2:19-20

Wow this is really great and it has a really strong and true message. It kind of sucks the way the world is collapsing in the way that almost nobody believes anymore, or they say they believe, but don't prove it or back their statement up. People nowadays are money-obsessed, workaholics, and a lot don't even have time for their own family, let alone God. Yet they still say they're Christian. Really good write though, great job!
I truly enjoyed this poem. It's a subject I feel strongly about, being one of those who believes that just sitting in a pew doesn't bring redemption.
