Resting one day
Upon leaves of brown
Late September
Soon Winters ground
Here alone
My thoughts are free
With only the forest
My company
The wind blew swift
As a Hawk at prey
And struck like an Eagle
In the chill of the day
The sun was low
Shown red and dry
Gray blue clouds
Float slowly by
The Moon was low
More even with the land
Full in a day or so
If the forest will stand
The grass lay worn
Battered and dry
Protected in winter
By the fall from the sky
Left are the trees
To stand alone
To name the forest
An autumn home
