Note to Gallery Supers

I've made some changes in the galleries which I hope will make your job as Gallery Super easier.

1) The size of the thumbnails has been increased. This should make it easier to judge what the full images contain so you can better tell where to move it.

2) There is a new choice for moving images. You can now use a checkbox to check the images you wish to move. Then you enter the page where they are to be moved to.

With the larger thumbnails it is more critical that pages contain no more than 20 thumbnails. If you have a page with more than 20 images you can use the insert a page after this one. Then check off the ones you wish to move then enter the page number which would be the page you are on + 1.

You may also notice that some thumbnails are smaller. This is because of another change. If the image is less that 112 X 112, the new size of thumbnails, then the image will not be thumbnailed. Instead the full image will be displayed as the thumbnail.

We lost many Supers as I had expected. That means that the remaining ones must work diligently. The task may seem huge. But once the initial arranging is done you'll find that organizing the few images uploaded into your gallery will be a simple task. We need to see progress but don't feel that you must have your galleries in shape immediately. Steady progress is the key.

Toni has done an excellent job with her gallery, "Sailor Moon" This has the most images of all and hence is probably the hardest. You might like to look at hers. However, most other galleries cannot break images down into seasons simply because there are not enough images to do that. One great way to get a feel of what you need to do is to look at other galleries that have a similar number of images to your gallery.

You might find it helpful to hander through other galleries and see what others are doing. You may pick up an idea or pass on an idea you have to that super. For example I wandered through the galleries today and yesterday straightening out the page titles. While doing that I noticed someone had a section for bookmarks. "Hmmmm so That's what those are," I thought.

We are changing the gallery assignments somewhat so that there will be no more than one person on each gallery. This will prevent you from working on your gallery only to find that someone changed everything and messed up your organization. You will likely have more than one gallery but I'm sure you've discovered that many galleries are simple because they contain few images.

I also added one other feature and that is an email link on the full image to you, of course using PnP's email. This is intended to help give credit to images. As with other emails it will contain a link to the page it was sent from. It will be part of your task to change the credits when someone emails you about them.

For the most part, the supers have been doing a fine job.

Thanks lots

bob

We had about 30 people who volunteered to be Gallery Supers. We decided that we will accept all of them and assign two galleries, more or less, per person. That will vary a bit so that the busiest galleries will have more Supers.

A few people asked if this is a paid position. The answer is no, the truth is that PnP receives just about what it costs so there really is nothing left over to pay people. However you will have free membership as long as you are a Super. You will need to email me if your membership has expired.

Please respond to this email with what galleries you would like to do. List 3-4 in the order of your preference. I'll try to assign the galleries that way. Also let me know if you feel very strongly about which galleries you want.

When you go to your gallery you will see all the Supers for that gallery. It is very important that you get together with the others so that you agree on some of the basic things you want to do.

At the moment any Super will be able to go to any gallery and arrange images in that gallery. I believe it's a better idea that they can only rearrange images in their own gallery. I'll very likely do that very soon. Meanwhile please do not make changes in any gallery other than your own. Email the Supers for that gallery if you spot something.

You should be very careful to log off if you are using a public computer so the person that follows you can't become a Super by having your MemberID.

All new images are automatically placed on Page 1 of its gallery. That makes it easier to see which ones are new. Also if you have assigned a name to all images on page 1 the new ones will have no name.

Within your gallery you will probably see the new section in the middle area which is a bio/description of the gallery. You will be able to edit that using the link just above that area. Only Supers see that link.

The pages should be reasonable in size. I've always shot for about 20 thumbnails per page. You can always insert or delete pages if you need to keep the pages reasonable sized. Don't worry that you might delete a pageful of images. A page can only be deleted if it's empty.

Above the images you will see "Page 1, an input box then a button that says "Set Page Name" You can set the names of each page that way.

Each thumbnail also has an input box where you can set a name for each image. That is very important for search engines. The caption for every picture on page 1 of Sailor Moon is "Sailor Moon". That gets us very highly ranked at Google. You should do that as much as possible, especially on page 1 of any gallery.

You will also see an input box that says "Order" That controls the order that the images appear on the page. At first they will be 10, 20, 30, 40 etc. If you want to move image 200 to being between 10 and 20 then you place in the order box any number between 10 and 20. when you click the button on the bottom that says "Change Order and Image Name", all the changes you made will be done. The numbers will again be 10, 20, 30 40 etc. but the one you moved will now be 20. The numbers are ONLY used for that, just to move images on the page.

Near the bottom you will also see a "Move Page" button. This moves the page to any place you want. There is another button that says "Insert a Page After This One." It does just that. That will be handy when you have a section, for example "gifs" that has far more than 20 image per page. If you empty a page of all images you will then see a "Delete this Page" button.

To move an individual image click on the thumbnail to go to the picture and then you will see a link that says "Move Image" Click and you will get a popup. In the popup are many input boxes. You can move an image out of your gallery if it's in the wrong gallery. To move it to a different page in your gallery change the "Page:" You can also use this to change any other information such as "Credits". In that case leave the gallery and page alone.

If an image happened to slip through that is inappropriate, you can click the "Dis-Approve" button. IMPORTANT: We allow the nudity which is in the Japanese version so don't delete because it has that. What is best is to email me and tell me the gallery and image number. Between myself and the directors we will decide if it's ok. I'll probably remove the button soon or make it available to the Super-in-Charge.

There also is a button to mark the image as animated if it is. There is also a button to "Make Thumb" I added that at one time to create the thumbnail but it doesn't work. If the thumbnail is messed up (as some are) email me with the gallery and image number. NOTE: what I do is make a thumbnail with an image program and then replace the one that is there. I'm certain that one or more of you could do that; make the thumbnail and then email it to me. That would also help a lot.

How you decide to arrange your gallery is up to you. However you should look at other galleries and follow a similar plan. Most importantly email the other supers for your gallery and make sure you all agree on how to do this. Don't be afraid to email other supers in other galleries. Look around and see what they are doing. Someone is sure to come up with some wonderful ideas.

Page numbers alone have become rather useless. I am working on making another area like the Bio where you can put descriptions of the pages. For example, 1-12=Sailor Mercury, 13-16=Ami, 17-19=gifs, etc.

If your gallery is perfect and you are bored you can search the web for more images for your gallery. PLEASE credit the site where you get them. I also may have a few more jobs available in the future.

With 30 Supers we are going to need someone with leadership skills to be in charge. I really can't because I'm so busy with other things. If you feel that you are qualified for that position please email me.

Save this email so you can refer to it if needed. I believe you will find that it is very easy to do, though it will take up some time. If you have any problems please contact me. If you have any wonderful new ideas please email me and I'll see what I can do.

You will soon have a Super-in-Charge. When that happens I'll let you know and then you should contact him or her instead of me. If for any reason you cannot work in your gallery please don't simply leave and abandon it. Let the other Supers for that gallery know and also contact the Super-in-Charge.
