You Hurt Me, My Friend...
by Jackie Edwards (Age: 22)
copyright 09-03-2006

Age Rating: 1 to 127

Can you hear that?
That's the sound of a breaking heart.
It's crying out to you,
It's crying out to you.

Can your see that water?
That's the tears shed in secret.
They cry out to you,
They cry out to you.

Can you hear me?
I'm falling apart without my friend,
I'm coming unglued,
I'm breaking apart.

I call you, not even a lot,
And I wind up talking to your answering machine.
Until it says I've reached the time limit,
What time limit?

When I call, I just want five minutes,
Not to talk to the machine, but to you.
I just want to hear your voice,
I just want to hear your voice.

You've got some stuff going on,
And I understand that and respect it.
But it's been a week since we last talked,
An entire week since we last talked.

Just tell me you're fine,
Just tell me it's all okay,
And then I'll leave alone,
I'll leave you alone.

I want to be your friend,
The way it was in sixth grade,
Playing Digimon by the creek,
Go get 'em, Gatomon.

At work, please don't just breeze by me,
A simple 'hello' will keep me from getting hurt.
I can't help my oversensitivity,
I'm a box marked 'fragile – please don't drop'.

Please...be my friend again,
Not a stranger in my friend's clothes...

I hate when people change and go away. I've lost all my friends in the past couple of weeks. I've been literally wasting away. It's horrible when you look to someone you love and it's not them anymore. It hurts to be the one left behind, especially when you did nothing at all. This poem really got the feeling across. The abandonment people feel. My praise isn't working. FIVE FLOWER THINGIES!!!

I think you did a good job of getting your point across. I once had a best friend, who decided one school year that she was going to have different friends. That hurt a lot, but now I realize, she wasn't a true friend. I was just a convenient stopping point for her.
Anyway, I wanted to comment on one line that I thought was excellent: "I'm a box marked 'fragile – please don't drop'" This line just says it all.

Losing a friend is extremley heartbreaking. I think that everyone in this world learns of this feeling at least once, and you have, like the others have said in different ways, expressed this feeling well.

Thanks!

~Jenn
