One Dark, One Blonde
by David Pekrul
copyright 08-25-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

One was dark and one was blonde,
For their attention, I did long,
But they were just a fantasy,
It seems I didn't quite belong.

For they had all their special friends,
And I would often just pretend,
That I was also one of them,
And we could be the best of friends.

But it was never meant to be,
For they were them and I was me,
They chose to hang with cooler guys,
And I was just so much debris.

And now I wonder where they are,
My love for them has left a scar,
And though I was a teenaged kid,
Oh, how I wished upon those stars.

Ahhh, David can I ever relate to this one. You caught the memory so very well. Never a ladykiller in my youth or my old age, I longed and lusted after many a fair maiden and was almost always rebuked. Now, at almost 60, I fear I shall never find the fairytale princess of my dreams. I had one close, but she slipped away after 17 years. Great write!!

Best Regards,
Lyle

When I was a teenager, my habit was to like girls who didn't like me. Then I learned to like those who were interested in me. This was a hard lesson for me to learn, because I did not understand the dynamics of beauty. But then I filled up and found that beauty was truly in the eyes of the beholder. This piece brought back those wonderful memories. This is well written and very dramatic. Some of the rhymes are just a bit off, but nonetheless, this is a wonderful piece to read.
