I hadn’t the notion,
Of the kind of emotion,
It would take to do such a thing.
Free falling into darkness,
An impact of harshness,
As your body lay cold and alone.
A night once filled with laughter,
My heart beating faster,
As the ambulance rushes to save.
Mere seconds before,
Could have been the lore,
Of tragedy, loss, and pain.
Since driving away,
I’ve never forgotten the day,
Upon the asphalt your body had lay.
~*~
This is based on an experience that I went through about a month ago. A friend and I were going to a concert together, her parents were coming with us. We were driving down the road, and we came to an overpass with three bridges on top of each other. We drove under these bridges, but just as we were about to come out from under them, something fell and almost hit our car. My friend’s father swerved, almost hitting the car next to us. Then we turned around and realized it was a person. We called the police, but we had to keep going because we knew the band, and they were expecting us. We don’t know whether he fell off, was pushed off, or…jumped.
I don’t think I’ll ever be the same, and I’m still scared of bridges.
