The Chosen - A New Beginning
Chapter 3
by Natalie Amaral
copyright 10-14-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

He watched the couple through the restaurant, frowning.

There was something entirely different about his enemy; the bastard would have sensed him by now. However, both he and the lovely woman were completely oblivious to the fact that they were being followed at all.

Philippe Lexieverre was a tall, dark-haired man with a mustache and a beard. He kept his hair slightly long-just past his shoulders, and he had a deep tan; compliments to his tanning bed. It was a perfect way to disguise his vampirism.

He had been a night creature for over seven centuries. Throughout most of that time period, he had been looking for the vampire who transformed him.

Now there he was, in the restaurant with his potentially next victim.

So, why hasn’ted he sensed my presence? Philippe found himself wondering. I’m sure he must have seen me out here even. I’m surprised he hasn’t stomped out of there to meet me.

No matter.

Philippe would waite out here for them to come out.

Kaitlin noticed that Lucien was looking at the window behind her. She frowned, turned and cast a questioning glance at Lucien. “What were you looking at just now?”

“A man was standing out there—he was looking at me quite intently.”

“Just now, you mean?”

“Yes.” Lucien shrugged. “Well, whoever he is, he just left.” He took out his wallet. “Are you ready to leave?”

Kaitlin nodded. “Ready when you are.”

“Good.” Lucien called the waiter and paid him the bill with his tip. The waiter walked away, pleased with Lucien’s generosity.

The two of them walked out of the restaurant, Kaitlin holding Lucien’s arm as they walked blissfully among the night. Kaitlin looked up at the moon before staring at Lucien, startled at the difference of his appearance between now and the first time she met him. Before he was pale and flawless-looking. Now, he was tanned with a slight case of stubble.

Suddenly, he stopped, looking behind him.
“What’s wrong?” Kaitlin asked.

“I heard something.”

Kaitlin stood still right then, rooted in her spot. The one and only lingering vampiric ability Lucien still had even after being turned to a human was his sensitive hearing.

Slowly, Lucien tried to turn around, but even Kaitlin didn’t have a chance to see what was happening next. She had been pushed aside with such force that she fell to the ground.

A dark-haired man came and attacked Lucien, punching him and beating him with incredible strength. When Kaitlin saw Lucien’s attacker’s teeth, she froze: she realized that she was staring at a vampire.

“After all these centuries,” the vampire shouted with disgust, “I finally found you!”

With that, the vampire punched Lucien in the nose so hard, all three of them heard a loud snap before blood came pouring from Lucien’s nostrils.

That’s when a look of awe came across the vampire’s features. “What have I done?” he whispered.

“Yes, indeed!” Lucien shouted, gripping the creature’s collar. “What have you done! You’ve attacked me! What’s even worse was that you assaulted my wife, and that makes me even more angry!”

With that, Lucien reached for his crucifix . . .

The vampire merely pushed him aside. When Lucien turned to chase after him, he was already flying in the air.

“Lucien!” Kaitlin cried. “You’re hurt!”

“It’s just a bloody nose, and—ouch!” Lucien grabbed his stomach.

“That’s it!” Kaitlin said in a motherly tone. “It’s off to the hospital with you, Mister.”

Lucien wouldn’t argue with her at that point.

Now I wonder about that littel boy that Lucien let go without biting eons ago when the evil lady vampire thrust the boy at him. UNfortunately I can't recall how many centuries Lucien was a vampire to compare to this new guy's 7 centuries.... But could perhaps this be that boy, bitten and then brainwashed by the evil lady vampire to believe Lucien did it?

Thank you for the links! Just a couple minor spelling errors you may want to fix up. The story is promising to be very interesting. As far as we know, Lucien never bit anyone yet this one is after him. Looking forward to reading more! Well done!
