Hahahahaha! I can mentally see some of this happening. I have not had to work due to me being a college student at the esteemed Georgia Southern University, but this is good to read in case I eventually join the service sector of the workforce. I love how humorous the items were... you must have acquired these from personal experience. I know that sounds kind of dumb for me to say, but with the way you describe them it seems like you learned these things from experience.
From observing store employees in action, these words of wisdom seem to hold true no matter what store you shop at. When wildly undisciplined children wreak havoc in the aisles, turn the other way. When someone sticks gum to things and you saw them do it, do not confront them. And NEVER imply that someone is larger than they say they are, because that is an invitation for disaster. Good work and thanks for sharing them with us.
You did a great job on this!I think if the employees read this, their additude might just change towards other people,because-and I hate to say this-but some people can be a little racist.
Thank you all, for your comments. I've been in retail for so long, I've forgotten many of the really funny things that have happened. But since Mary mentioned #3, I have to let you know that that happened to me just days before I wrote this. No, I didn't roll my eyes, but I wanted to when a woman walked up to me, read my nametag, and said, "Tell me, do you work here, please?" It was either roll my eyes or just laugh in her face, but instead, I just looked at her and said, "What can I help you with?"
#3 Has me rolling on the floor, Aunt BJ! LOLOLOL. Some people definitely speak before engaging their brain, lol. When I worked at Things Remembered so many of things happened (like kids knocking off stuff from the shelves and you dont' DARE scold them).
I was actually thinking about getting back into retail, but after reading this... I think I'll pass. LOL.
You know, had I read YOUR entry first... I might not have entered myself. Mine is long and wordy and blah blah... while yours is VERY entertaining! :-)
truly classic. I think every one that already works at a department store should read this and make some mental notes. I thought this was really informative and funny!
