Begging God

In quaking fear I stand before thee, Almighty God above, begging a moment of time from the one I love
No doubt you’ve reason to destroy the earth, and cease the cycle of death and birth down here far beneath
But before you angrily pounce upon your prey I pray you’ll grant a moment to voice what I’ve gotta say
With listening ears unstopped and a believing heart open wide, with utter forgiveness and unbounded mercy ignore your wounded pride
Before deserving talons of death quick pierce my eternal soul and my humble spirit bleeds just short of mankind’s goal
Hear now please my reasonings though imperfect they may be, and perhaps they’ll awaken something within allowing you to see
You once said your purpose was for man to fill this world, I’ve got to believe that that’s it still
Another time you promised that the earth would never totter, whether hell freezes over or if it only gets hotter
And then again you promised a Messiah that would deliver, if we faithfully followed guidelines shooting straight from our quiver
Some refuse to believe, but some of us here do! And wasn’t it the same up there in heaven too?
What about how your purpose will always prove to be? It seems if earth’s destroyed then it won’t you see
I believe you intended a happy family all serving you, and earth is where ‘twas to be, isn’t this true
You said if Adam and Eve sinned then they’d die, never said you’d destroy the earth, isn’t that a lie?
You’re a perfect God, one full of wisdom and truth; this is what I’ve been taught from my very youth
We’d live if we’d believe, try our best and repent… but if this isn’t true then nothing here makes sense
Despite our imperfections, besides the hatred and murder and strife… there are many reasons for which to spare our life
So much like the Fifth Element who sought reasons to save earth, I’ve got one or two for you too
Abel, Job, and Moses to name a few faithful men; All the disciples if I were to name some again
There were women and children who died faithfully as well, I read about them in all those stories you tell
Isn’t that enough for a list of reasons to live, it’s just the beginning of the many I’ve to give
But no matter what I do or say is right, I’ve got one major reason I’ll win this verbal fight
You see Jesus came here to die for our sins, ensuring that if we exercised our faith we’d be forgiven
So no matter how bad mankind may screw things up, there’s no way we can ever screw them up enough
For he was the propitiatory sacrifice to cover our transgressions, the reason the light and the way for our resurrections
Your promise made is as good as a promise kept; I found my faith one night while the Devil slept
So I believe in the things that you have said and repeat your comforting phrases each night in my head
The meek shall inherit the earth and will reside forever upon it; no ifs ands buts, no maybe or however
Respectfully I beseech the Almighty to let the earth stay, this night I request in earnest as I desperately pray

OK, OK! I have written my poem, but not in time for the contest. The contest went to the 'winner' page before my proposed 'entry' could be approved and posted. (everybody says 'awe darnnitt')
But, as I said, I had more fun taking the opposite stance.. longing for my belief to take place. You quoted Rev. 21:4,but Rev.21:1,2,3 says "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away; and there was no more sea. 2. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God."
I will not dispute each of the scriptures you have quoted, but I would like to know if your bible has all of the same text as mine? I am unable to see where these bits and pieces add up to the earth staying as it is, and man dwelling on it in it's present state, or even being remodeled. I lean toward the entire book of Rev. to explain the old earth and even the moon and stars to be destroyed.
I also cherish the whole chapter of Rev 7. Once the 144,000 had been introduced, then in verse 9 began the introduction of the multitude of all nations, which, if you read to the end of the chapter, are those who washed their garments white in the blood of the Lamb. I am counting on being among them. If even the lowest of servants.. as Mary (Magdalene?)was allowed to serve Jesus. (I love much because I have been forgiven much)
I don't think I will mind serving someone for eternity that cherishes me the way Rev. 7:15,16 and 17 describe.
I don't know about you, but I see my troubles on earth as a tribulation to overcome still standing in my faith, to become one of these for eternity.
And the new heaven and the new earth have not been spoken of yet here, so I have to believe His throne is still in heaven, in the new city that will come down to earth once the earth is made new.
Anyway, in my emails to you I proclaimed that I do not like to argue prophecy, but I do have to know enough to believe in what I am striving for in the end, don't I?
I thank Walter Jones for the opportunity to debate, nonetheless! I think I shall make a play of the whole thing.. An Evangelist as he argues men need more time to do His will upon the earth, a Witness to point out the promises made to keep the earth and inherit it, and a lost sinner, now found, clinging to Jesus's robes for a chance to escape the pain of earth.... hmmmm... might work? (wink)
Much Love in Christ, Debbie
Oh come on, Tammy... You still got four days! Don't give up... a contest is always more fun with the more entrants, and I'd absolutely LOVE to see what it is you've done with it. PLEASE? (Kneeling before you with huge wide open innocent doe eyes)... (Batting lashes as an after thought)
LOL... really though, I bet you could knock out a great one... no prob. If you do... let me know and I'll be right there to read it!
Very nicely done Mary! I was going to enter the contest myself but started and failed three times. I was on a roll my third attempt, only my computer froze about half way through and I lost everything!
Good Luck in the contest! You are so talented!
Tammy F.
Yes, I did tell God that he should save the earth because he promised us he would. Yours were good points as well. I admit we can not earn our salvation, but faith without works is dead... yes? So that makes the works just as important as they are evident proof of said faith.
Did you ever see Fifth Element? (Movie with Bruce Willis)... where he tries to convince the Fifth Element why she should save the earth and he said many things... but in the end... he said "love". And isn't that ultimately true? For God is a god of love, yes?
I know we have differences in our beliefs, but God is God and the Bible is the Bible and on that we can agree. (Huge smile) I love agreeing with you... for not to would definitely be a daunting task! (Shudder) I much rather be for you than against you.
Take care my friend, and thank you for the healthy competition. I wish you well!
OH, Debbie! PLEASE reconsider and enter this contest. You are SO VERY talented and I very much wish to read what you've started. Please finish it!!!!
And besides, the Bible wasn't talking about doing away with the old earth, just making it like "new"... kind of "remodeling" if you will.
See also the following ...
PS 37:29 says that Righteous will posses the earth and will reside forever upon it.
Does he mean a NEW earth after the OLD one is destroyed? No!
Ecc 1:4 says that the earth will stand to time indefinite (so God promised it will NOT be destroyed... see also PS 104:5)
God GAVE the earth to us (Ps 115:16) and he won't take it back. IF men do not obey, he will take their lives (as promised to Adam/Eve... they would die) but he will take the earth away from men for our actions... only our lives. (see also Mat. 5:5, Prov 10:30, Isa 25:8)
Now look at his "purpose" (Isa 45:18 - formed it to be inhabited, Gen 1:28 - fill the earth and subdue it). Now read Isa 55:11... whatever God purposes (earth filled with a family of mankind all happy and serving God) will prove to be! It WILL come to pass despite the temporary detour that Satan has placed in the path of the earth's fulfillment of God's intentions. Did that make any sense?
So, when God cleanses the earth and death is no more (Rev. 21:3,4) and God's will is FINALLY done on earth as it is in Heaven (Matt. 6:10) then the earth will truly and FINALLY be the Paradise that God intended in the beginning. See?
(See also Isaiah 11:6-9)
So, please reconsider and finish your poem and share it with us and enter the contest? (I don't ask much, do I? LOL)
Wow! This sounds quite Shakespearean.. in fact, you even have to slow down to see the method to the madness, so to speak, but the points are well made.
David, watch out! You have competition!
I was starting my own entry. I began drafting points, and before I could begin the rhythym and rhyme, I had convinced myself to be in agreement with God's will and could no longer protest! "and the old earth shall pass away and become new"...
aahh! (small scream) Oh well, good luck to you both. Debbie
Well done., for in time all comes back to what was promised, faith or belief, for once the cloth is drained what remains is hope and salvation. Enjoyed... Walt
Very nice, very, very, VERY nice. Now that's the kind of competition I was talking about. I really like your piece because it is much more theologically correct than mine. Now I know that we do not agree on some doctrine, as I am an evangelical christian and you are of the Jehovah Witness faith, but still, you presented your piece as telling God that He should save the earth because of your faith in Him. I presented my argument that He should save the earth because of some great works we have done. I know that premise is incorrect, as the Bible says,"Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it." Ephesians 2:9. But sometimes in my writings I like to play the "Devil's Advocate". A little controversy is good for debate.
Good luck in the contest.
