Max
by Taryn Drag (Age: 19)
copyright 11-24-2006

Age Rating: 4 to 127

This is an unfortunate, very true poem about my dog, Max.

He's sick, is he dying?
I cannot stop crying
My sweet little Bichon
May very soon be gone
There's sadness in his eyes
Just touch him and he cries
There'd bad pain in his back
Good medicine we lack
I cannot bear to see
It's way too hard for me
To see my best friend die
To have to say good bye
We have to pick him up
Because he cannot jump
New problems every day
How did he get this way?
He used to be just fine
He was for a long time
Then these illnesses came
My puppy's not the same
My mom says since's he weak
He might be put to sleep
I cry and shout out, "No!"
She says, "It might be so."
Looking into his face
No dog can take his place

Ahhh...the pain of losing a pet is no different than losing a human in your family. Pets are just as important in our hearts as humans, and no matter what other people say I won't me ashamed to say I cried every night for a few months when our cat, Daltree, died when I was seven. That was far more than five years ago now, and we have two new cats, who I love with all my heart, but are not a replacement to Daltree. She lived 'til 18, I knew her for 7 years. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear your dog died. New pets help, they give you something to do and think about, and you'll love them as much as you loved your other pets, but your other pets will never be replaced or forgotten. This is a very nice piece, and I can relate to it fully. I hope your heart heals, though only time will heal it. The flow and that sort of stuff is very good in this piece. I'm glad I'm reading this, definitely a good addition to your growing collection of works on PnP. I'm always glad to read the new work of the new PnP authors! Great work, keep writing. I hope to hear that you're feeling better soon.
