  Beware The Harvest Nights

Welcome the eve, as the sun goes down
The leaves from the trees softly fall to the ground
The chill in the air is felt in your mind
As the troubles of day seem all to unwind

Autumn nights steal the light of the day
Cool winds chase the suns warmth away
Shadows are long and hide from our sight
The ghosts and the goblins that prowl in the night

Run to the warmth of the hearth, burning bright
Run from the creatures that give us such fright
Huddle in warmth 'round the fire that glows
As you listen to the chill of the wind as it blows

Beware the creatures that lurk in the dark
Keep far away from the woods in the park
For should you venture into the deep
You just may never again fall to sleep

This was written in response to Deborah Thomas' Harvest challenge, to be read with a Vincent Price feel.

Thanks for reminding me that this poem was out here.
Every time I read it I like it more.
I can feel the brisk autumn and I almost shiver as I read.
I am happy to get another chance to read this well-structured, well-written poem again.

Your friend,

~Rich

It's getting close to that time of year again. In another week it'll be officially fall. It's been almost a whole year since you've written this one!

Your poem brought very haunting and creepy images to mind. I really liked the rhythm. :)

~Brrrrr -the frost is on the pumpkin and the chill is in the air and your poem is very haunting and filled with orange and black
and lights up my November sky.

Great mood poem.

thanks,

Rich

As usual, your words flow so smoothly and the images your writing evokes are real and can be seen deep within the window to our soul. This is a VERY good entry for the contest, as if you ever enter anything but. (Big Grin) I'm so proud to be related to you! LOL

I hope your weekend goes well. I'll write you an in depth email soon because I've got to tell you that I GOT A JOB! We'll see if it's the "one" for me soon, though.

Anyway, thank you for blessing us with your work. It's always a treat (with no tricks).

Yer Niece,

Mary/BrytEyz of The Commenting Crusaders

"Beware The Harvest Nights" was originally written for Deborah Thomas' "Harvest" contest. After it was entered into that contest, Debbie added another contest, "A Poe-etic Halloween," in which this work seemed to fit better. Thus, it's entered into both. :)

Darkness falls across the land
the midnight hour is close at hand...

This is definitely Vincent Price. Appropriate for October fright. Nice rhymes and good imagery. I hope it wins!!!

10-14-2006 Deborah Thomas

Love it! LOL! The Vincent Price aspect really works, doesn't it? Just the sound of his voice in your head makes it flow together better.
I wonder how many more I can 'channel' VP into for effects? Oops.. I think I need a different contest!

This definitely sounds like a Halloween night to me. Gives a good feel of a cold October evening, full of imagination of ghosts and goblins.
Good luck in the contest.
