Religion Is Religion
by David Pekrul
copyright 10-14-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Religion is religion, whether organized or not,
And it is a religion that has put us in this spot,
Of having to defend our faith,
And things that we believe,
It really is a nasty web that we have had to weave.

But why is it we put ourselves inside this awful place,
When all we had to do was tell of God's unfailing grace?
To tell of His begotten Son,
Who died upon the cross,
To rescue us from Satan's curse, when we were all but lost.

Instead, we set up man-made shrines and churches made by hand,
But these are just religious things that will not ever stand,
When at His judgment seat we wait,
To answer for our sin,
It's only those who trust in Christ, eternal life will win.

For God has made it very plain and tells us in His Word,
That trusting in a man-made faith is really quite absurd,
Nor is it a religion that
Will make us right with Him,
By taking 'holy sacraments' or even singing hymns.

The Gospel is a simple truth and easy to apply,
He sent salvation through His Son, and asks us to reply,
Accepting Christ's own sacrifice,
Or going it on our own,
It's such an easy choice for me; I'll worship at His throne.

Wow this was really well done! You know I was just thinking of something along these terms. Today in religion class we were taking notes on marriage (for whatever reason...)and my teacher explained how the Catholic Church doesn't believe in divorce, and that legal documents don't mean anything to God, so even if a person is divorced in God's eyes they were still married, which makes sense, right?
But then she explained how in the Catholic Church they believe in anullment, and it's where the priest goes through a bunch of stuff and says the marriage never was, and that then in the eyes of God the marriage never really happened. But how does a priest have the authority to step in in God's place and say things in God's place? And what's the difference between anullment and divorce because either way you're getting married, then something happnes and you separate. Isn't it almost the same thing?
So yeah I don't really get it, but I don't ant my teacher to get mad at me so I don't state all that stuff most of the time... I might yet though, lol. Anyways, sorry it got kind of long again, but this was a really great piece, usuallu a poem with such long lines you wouldn't think has a proper rhythm but you're pro. Lol. Great job!^^

Jessi
