Halloween's Evil Spell
by David Pekrul
copyright 10-15-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Shadows spreading fingers all across the Harvest Moon,
As hearts are silent, ghosts are everywhere,
Creeping very softly into everybody’s minds,
And those once brave, are now the first to scare.

Demons in the alley and a monster in the shed,
No longer safe to be outside your home,
And those who are so foolish as to stray beyond their door,
Are those who soon will perish as they roam.

The Jacko-Lantern’s evil; it’s no longer just a shell,
It’s full of ev’ry wickedness and sin,
And though it burns quite brightly, there is darkness deep inside,
Which pulls and captures all who look within.

Oh, people, don’t be foolish and ignore the things I say,
For many in the past have found their Hell,
They thought that Trick-Or-Treating was the thing that they should do,
But suffered Halloween’s dark, evil spell.

This one is really good too, to all the kids, Halloween is just about candy, trick or teating, and costumes; yet none of them really know what the event is about. I used to like Halloween, for the saem reason I just described, but this year I'm suddenly really against it.
But yeah, this was really well written, great job!

You describe this event well. To be honest, as a child we did not have the American version of All Hallows Eve. In fact I don't see the relationship between the American way and what it is supposed to be about.
I wonder how many Christians attend a service to remember and pray the dead, and all the other rituals.
It would appear that this has been forgotten along the way, now it's all about something called trick or treat.

The spirit of Halloween in orange and black.
You captured the ambiance with you usual great sense of rhyme and rhythm.

A Bootiful Write!

-shivers- David! You're scaring me! LOL! I love it. I love reading scary stories on a rainy day.. It's raining now here.
You have captured the 'spirit' of the season, with a reminder of the danger of indulging in this ungodly holiday.
My favrite part? It's a toss up between the first line of the first stanza, and the first line of the second stanza...
shadows speading fingers all across the harvest moon.. (heart beats quickly)
Demons in the ally and a monster in the shed... (I'm hiding under the bed!)
Vincent P.'s voice reading it really does the trick.
Task accomplished.
Thanks for entering my contest. Good luck!
