"I don't want to go. People talk weird." I, Lanni Portto, was arguing with my parents.
"You have to see your uncle even if he is gay. Also, at leased they even speak in English." My loving (mumble) parents. They always want me to go see my relatives. Last time I did was in 2001. I rode a plane from the local airport of(cough) and went to New York City. It was late August. Then September rolled on by, and... WAM! Our precious twin towers went down. I was a few blocks away at my aunts apartment, so we only got a little debree. We were outside though. That was where it was the worst. Now I'm listed on the Doctors' papers that I have Asthma. Thank you terrorists(mumble...$%$##$^). Now back to the real world of the London thing.
"Go, pack your bags now. Make sure you have enough of your allowance money and enough clothes."
"But, doesn't Uncle Dave and Aunt Denis ,(guy), have enough money, because Dave works at the banking area of London?"
"Yes, but we don't want them to think that we need them to pay for everything you need. You're old enough now, start a job." WHAT? I did not just hear my father say "job". Then I knew he read my face.
"Yes, I did say get a job. Start the money you have now to go toward work, or for the uniform, and save the rest for major necessities." That's it, I'm not going! I can't stand not buying anything that's not make-up or jewelry. My dad, being the one who could read my face yet again and all the time, spoke.
"That means only using the make-up and jewelry you have now and get more when you really need it." Ugg!
"Now, listen to your father, and now me. Go to your room and get packed. If you need more bags, ask me." She turned around and headed to the phone. She dialed the number that was familiar to me for the past two days. My uncle's number. She waited for the long distance telemarketer to take the call. Then she looked at me with the phone still next to her ear.
"Get packed now." She used the voice that could put a few chills up your spine. I turned as fast as I could up the wide semi-spiraled carpeted stair case you would see in the Sorority House in "Legally Blond". I walked all the way toward my room. Past to sun room, the family room, the exercising room, and then my own Grand bathroom. I walked into my room and then into my walk-in closet. Wow was it small. It was only 25x25 feet big. Barely big enough for all of my hair accessories, shoes, shirts, jeans, skirts, and leggings. Don't forget the make-up and jewelry corners. I got my three luxury travel bags and put them on my bed. I thought of how to organize all of the stuff I wanted to take. I thought that one bag should be for the shirts and legging, another for the skirt and jeans, and the smaller one would be for my shoes. I started with the shirts. I grabbed four clothes hangers, two in each hand, at a time. I took the clothes carefully off the hangers and set them in the first bag. I went back into my closet about ten more times and noticed that there was a lot more room then I thought. So I went back another five times and realized that I had to put my leggings in the same bag. So I went back into my closet and got almost every set of leggings I had and lightly put them in the bag. I closed it with a little bit of hassle. Then I went back to my closet and packed up my jeans and skirts. I knew I had to have at leased sixty pairs of either. So I grabbed 35 pairs of skirts, because what's the point of leggings if there's pants over them. Then I grabbed 25 pairs of pants. Then I noticed that I had enough room for about 5 pairs of pajamas. I got the one's I liked the most and then put them on top of the jeans. I had more hassle with that bag then with the first bag.
Then started on my shoes. I went back into my closet for the billionth time and grabbed as many flats and stilettos I could get my hands on. I grabbed white, yellow, and sky blue steleos and pink, light purple, yellow, and light orange flats. I put those in my bag and saw that I could fit another pair of stilettos and two more flats. So, I got my favorites. Lime green stilettos, white and hot pink flats. I closed that bag up and left the room, to the bathroom to be exact. I turned on the lights and walked over to the counter. I got my cosmetic bag from the upper cubberd and set it on the counter next to my brush and facial lotions. As I was packing my brush and my favorite toothpaste, I looked in the mirror. I saw that I had a few frizzes on my silky, bright red hair, a freckle on my tanned face, and that I had lint all over my shirt. I got my lint roller out and got the lint off. Then I got my other brush that was in the drawer next to the sink, and did my hair. I like it better when it's back into a ponytail. Then I forgot my freckle and kept packing my toothbrushes, facial lotions, and my blush. Then I walked back into my bedroom and packed my favorite nail polish, favorite color lip gloss and then my favorite rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Then I packed that into shoe bag and closed that bag.
I went under my bed to get my box of purses. I told my self that I could only have one, but I couldn't choose which one. Then I just grabbed the one on the bottom. It was light blue and small. It was big enough for a few things and lip gloss, my wallet, and my Razer cell phone. I grabbed my wallet that had all of my allowance in it. All $1000 of it. I put it in my purse and closed it. I slung in over my shoulder and went to my other bags. I tried to roll all of them at the same time but It didn't go so well. I put the smaller on top of the biggest one. Then I grabbed the handle of the two bigger ones and walked down the hallway with them. I got to the top of the stairs and yelled down for help.
"Can somebody help me? I have too many bags." I could have sworn I heard my dad say 'When doesn't she.' Err. Mom walked up the stairs and grabbed a bag. We both walked down the stairs and I almost collapsed.
"Why do you always take too much?" My dad came around the corner with a page of newspaper rolled up. He walked over to me and tapped me on the head. I hate it when he does that. Mom ignored him. She pulled my bag to the coffee table where she had the plans for my journey.
"Your uncle..and aunt...(cough) said it was okay that you could come over. Who knows, people might actually like your style." She looked down at my thin, tan stomach that was showing.
"You're my mom, so you have to make me look like a Geisha. If you remember, this place isn't really the place that has cold weather." I looked at the T.V. that showed the weather for my hometown, the town of (cough). Mom just shrugged when they showed the weather for the whole state of (cough) and turned back at me.
"You are gonna stay for about two months. I hope you don't come home early because of a little freak accident." She got a chill up her spine.
"More like a terrorist accident," I like to mumble, a lot, just to let you know.
"Well, I called the airport for a round trip. They are making it out now. You can get both tickets when we drop you off at the airport." She grabbed the keys to her bright yellow sports car. She pulled the bag behind her as dad plopped back on the couch to read the newspaper. I continued to pull my two bags behind me. I closed the front door behind me, yelling at my dad at the same time,
"Bye, dad! Love you! Miss ya!"
"Love you too honey!" I could tell he was in the sports section because he wasn't really paying attention. Aren't we a loving family? Don't answer that.
We were on the road, going past the ocean and all of the hot surfers that I'll miss. I hope boys in London are cute... We finally made it to the airport. My mom parked as faraway as possible. She tuned the car off, but you could hardly tell the difference. You can't really hear the car hum when it's on. She popped the trunk so I could get my stuff. Again, she took the small bag and I took the two bigger bags. She closed the hood and we walked to the front doors.
"Now, I have the tickets under your name, so take good care of them. You will land once at North Carolina. It's a long trip. Then once you have 20 minutes there then you next plane takes off. The seat number and flight number should be on the tickets. You will have 4 tickets altogether. The one you need now and the one you need at North Carolina. Then you need the one out of London to again North Carolina. Then the one from N.C. to here,"
"Your first flight should be going in about two hours, but I wanted to come up here early so we can get all of the ticket madness together. Also, you might want to eat before you get on the plane, because it's all of the states you have to go over just to get over to N.C. Be careful when you're there. I don't know if you still know how to do karate so that scares me." I rolled my eyes,
"Mom, I've been taking lessons for the last two years. I still have three more lessons before you have to pay for more lessons." You could hear you sigh of relief beside you.
"I knew that. I just hope you remember everything when you are being attacked and you are too scared to do anything."
"You always think negative. Think positive the next time you think of me leaving. Nothing will happen."
"I hope you're right about that."
We were walking to a seating area, waiting for the plane to be called. Mom sets my bag next to the seat I plan on seating on. I set my bags to the other side.
"I'll check out the ticket business. Stay here."
"Where I'm I possibly gonna go, mom?"
"You might get something to eat or drink or bathroom."
"Just get the tickets, mom." She grunted, and then turned around on her heels toward the front desk. I just sat there waiting for her to come back so I could get something to eat. I didn't have any breakfast. I sat back and took my Razer cell phone out of my purse to text my friends on what was happening. First, I tried my best friend that lived down the street from me. I made it short,
Sallie,
U wn't belve this but im go'n 2 London 2 c my uncle & aunt, well, my 2 uncles.
Lanni,
I pressed send and it said that points were deducted. It's just like minutes. I waited for it to say that it was sent before I texted Crisy. I almost said the same thing. I pressed send and again, I lost minutes. I again waited for it to say it was sent. After that, I sent the same to Chloe, Lexis, Jessie, and Ryen, my boyfriend. Man, is he hot.
I then sent a text to my friend that was over in Germany, visiting her mother, sister, and neice. The sister was young when she had the girl. I sent a special one to Loraine, the one in Germany.
Loraine,
I miss u & that might soon end. I'm visiting my uncles in London & I might get to c u. I just hope I can.
Lanni
I pressed send and I waited for it to take away more points. Then it said that it was sent. I got out of everything and went to the first page. I sat it on the chair next to me, waiting for any of them to text or call me back.
I looked in the direction mom went to get the tickets. Then my phone rang the tone I assigned to Crisy. I picked it up.
"Hello?" I heard hysterics in the atmosphere.
"I can't let you go. I won't let you go. I can't believe your mom is making you go over to London. Do you have any idea how not fun it will be over here if you leave?"
"I thing I have idea." I rolled my eyes at the thought that they were gonna stay home crying because they don't have someone cool to hangout with at the mall. I would know. I've seen them do it before when IO had to go to New York. I came home and they were in my room talking about how they wished I was there.
"It's gonna be so scary without you here. Everyone will think we're out of your group..." She hesitated,
"Again."
"It'll be fine. I'm only gonna be gone for about a month. I'll be over and I'll come back. Don't worry."
You could hear her grunting in the background.
"I'm gonna come over to the airport and make you..not..go." Again she hesitated.
"You can;t do that because I already have my passports and I'm on my way to get on the plane."
"There's no way you are actually letting your mom push you over to London."
"There is a good end to this."
"What's that?" She sounded beyond stupid.
"London is one of the biggest spots for supermodels and fashion."
"No way. I am on my way over to the airport to go to London with you."
"It's a little late because the plane that's gonna take me to London is here and I have to get on it." I looked over at my mom, who was on her way back with my passport, tickets and an attitude. The person that did the stuff must of had an attitude, that's how mom gets it. Then I remembered Crisy was still on the phone.
"It's never to late. I know you are just trying to keep me from bugging you anymore. That's it. I'm out of your group!" Then I mouthed three, two, one..
"Maybe you keeping me away is a good thing. While you're gone, I'll clean your closet."
"There's not mush in there, but you can still fix up what I have there. I kinda messed the place up when I picking stuff to take with me. I only have my purse as a carry-on. I don't really trust the airport system. Even though all of my stuff is in the lower level of the plane."
"I'm gonna miss you. I hope you have fun over there."
"I hope they don't make me go to a private school like my aunt in New York did. She was the one that had the money and that school wanted money."
"Hey, I heard that most of the cute boys in London got to private schools, because that are the smartest."
"That's messed up. Over here, all of the cute guys are jocks and they're usually stupid jacks."
"You do have a point. Well, you have to get on the plane. Call me or text me when you can."
"Don't worry I will. I can call you after take off."
"Cool. Talk to you later."
"You too. Bye Crisy." Then I hung up. Mom was finally over to me.
"I really want a word with the manager or whoever it that runs this place. I don't like the people that work here. They always seem to have attitude."
"Well, did you give them an attitude first? That is normally why people act the way they do."
"All I said was I wanted the tickets. Then she had a fit and said that I needed a passport if I'm going that far out of the country. I told her that you had one but I didn't have it. Then she had to make a new one that takes about five minutes, but it felt like forever. Then I had to sign it and she had to stamp it every which way. Then I mentioned the tickets again. She gave me this sigh that said 'Shut up lady.' Then she looked up the areas that I planned for you and she had to make those. it took about ten minutes altogether to get them situated. Then I asked her what dock the plane was boarding and screamed at me, 'Read the ticket, ma'am!' I've never been insulted in my whole life." I just thought in my head 'Oh, really, because I have.' I took the tickets and passport and walked over to the closeted food place. Salvation! Food! A girl my size can eat anything I want and I won't get any bigger. I love being small. I got the first thing I saw and mom payed. We got our order and we sat down back where my stuff has been abandoned. Mom looks at me as I slammed the chicken fingers in my face.
"How will Ray-Ann react?" I rolled my eyes when she mispronounced my boyfriends name.
"First off, it's Ryen. Second, I text him and he hasn't sent anything back. I don't think he likes the idea."
"Maybe you should call him instead," I looked at her like she was crazy with a bunch of fries hanging out of my mouth.
"Or after you are done eating." I finished shortly after. I got my cell phone out. I dialed his number and he answered, a little quicker than I hoped.
"Hello." It sounded like he knew it was me.
"Um, hi. Did you get my text?" Then I head footsteps behind me.
"I believe I did." I could hear his voice on the phone and behind me. I took the phone away from my ear and closed it. I heard him do the same. I turned around, and saw that he was closer than I thought.
"Oh, hi. I guess you did."
"I got in my car as fast as I could. I knew I had to see you again." I looked at my mom and she looked at me with awe. She looked the same way she did when she was watching a romance movie that was similar to the one I was living at the moment. She held her hands up into a box and looked at me and Ryen like it was a movie.
"Films still rolling, dear." I sucked in air and held it. I looked back up at Ryen.
"I have to say one more thing before you go." I looked around at the people and they were staring. I stood up to be at his height. I looked deep into his eyes and he to me. Then he kissed me. Not even a second went by and he kissed me. It was like a soft torpedo came at me in the lips. We stood there, My arms around his neck, his arms around my waist. The people that were watching us before started applauding and whistling. I ignored it. I was only preoccupied with the lips on mine and who's they were. A few long minutes went by. I released first, knowing that my face was officially red of embarrassment. I opened my eyes to see that almost the whole place was looking. I turned a shade darker. Ryen just looked at me with his enchanting eyes. He looked around and got to the shade I was earlier. I turned around to see my mom pointing that I had to take my bags to the check-in and get on the plane. I looked back up at Ryen. I could tell he didn't want me to go. I gave him one more quick peck on the cheek and slowly moved away. I walked over to my bags and picked one up. Then I sat my purse on top of that and mom was following me with the other bags. I gave the person my bags except for my purse. Then I walked over the the front door of the dock. I gave the person my ticket and walked on. I got my cellphone out and texted Ryen. I went into the picture messages and picked the little animated people kissing. I sent it and the plane doors closed. The plane slowly tuned around and started getting faster when it was on the runway. The phone said that it was sent. I laid back and started daydreaming about me and Ryen. I could hear the caption on the over speaker. Then it faded as I got deeper and deeper into my dream. I thought about this one movie where the girl go away in a plane and she texts her boyfriend one word. Then the screen would follow the plane go into the sky as the boyfriend watched and then the screen would fade out.....
