Wishing For A Silver Lining

I wish my life were made of nothing but silver
When living Robert Frost's tale of fading gold
I blush at the veracious descriptions there
And how my life's exposed and accurately told

For when the drying yellow leaves of autumn
Float gently unto the freshly frosted ground
And though I try, hear no other noise within the wood
To accompany my lonely loving sound

I close my eyes and think I see
A sweet memory staring back at me
Because when winter freezes summer gone
You whisper a promise of spring

And like a miracle muse that saves my soul
I think I hear a distant songbird sing
A smile creeps across the frigid surface of my face
And hope like an angel flies
...With thawing hearts upon it's wing

I stand here looking through my mind at pictures saved there. I remember times as a young boy, early in the morning in late December, snow on the ground and frost in the trees. Beautiful, as is your poem! I love ya Mary and don't you ever forget it! Anthony

I really loved the beautiful words you used strung together like Christmas tree lights.
To save me from the cold
leaving me hope with the coming spring.

Best for me was:

I close my eyes and think I see
A sweet memory staring back at me
Because when winter freezes summer gone
You whisper a promise of spring

Long may you write!

This is very beautiful. It may not be intended but as I read it I felt intensity. I really enjoyed it. Frost is awesome and so are you.

Wow! This is the first poem I've read in 9 months and it was great. You haven lost your talent!

This may be the first of yours I've read. At any rate, it's purely wonderful. Better than Frost in some instances, though I can't name the poems right off. This is truly an aural feast. I reach into my pocket and dig out a rare five stars!

Oh, shit! I forgot the 5 stars (I wish to give 10.)

God, this is freakin' good! I think I said before that you write like Keats. I'm especially amazed at how great you are with enjambment: the words flow effortlessly and without contrived force from line to line. Also intersting is that this four-stanza poem is essentially one or two sentences that flows wonderfully. (I think there are two, and you may have deliberately omitted a period or two.) In this vein, your poem also reminds me of Frost's "The Silken Tent," which is essentially a one-sentence sonnet.
Freakin' good!!

Jim

Because when winter freezes summer gone
You whisper a promise of spring

Awesome!

Frost could do not much better than this.

This poem sings to my heart like your distant songbird.

Thanks for writing this.

Rich
