Caught Up In A Craze
by David Pekrul
copyright 11-25-2006

Age Rating: 10 to 127

It never ceases to amaze,
How some are caught up in a craze,
Because some others act that way,
Then they will do it too.

When someone says they must be slim,
They all rush out and join a gym,
And then workout both night and day,
Their waistlines to subdue.

To look real cool, they get tattoos,
They feel so dumb if they refuse,
But ink on skin won’t go away,
It’s stuck on them like glue.

With holes in nose and holes in lips,
They wear they’re pants below their hips,
And with some luck that’s where they’ll stay,
Or more of them we’ll view.

A certain car and certain clothes,
And so the pressure grows and grows,
To join right in without delay,
For that’s ‘the thing to do’.

And on and on and on it goes,
And where it stops, well know one knows,
The mold is set and on display,
It leads, and they pursue.

Ahh the pressure of conformity. Somethjing that's always been around, and never seems to go away... well... at least not 'till you get older, then you can look back at all the stupid things everybpdy you knew did lol. And then you laugh, and then you stop becuase you have to do dishes or something.

But, conformity can be hard to pass up, when you're a teenager or whatever, because it seems in school everybody wants to be cool and different, but then thy all end up being the same because they all went with the fads of those days, and then later they either forget it or regret it.

Anyways, those are only my views, I'm sure a lot of people have different ones :P.

This is a really good piece though, and really well-written. Great job!

I think in "And where it stops, well know one knows" you meant "no one knows".

The rythm was kind of bumpy in this, but it was pretty funny.

I think that the kids who get holes in their ears so big you can see right through them are the greatest. I just wanna stick my finger in one and pull. Good handhold for an angry wife or deviant toddler later on, no?

The ones who get tattooed all over though, I think you're a bit wrong about...there's a certain individuality that goes with that, as the most girls i've met who have tattoos all over--including neck, arms, back of hands...and the piercings--they're the ones who are the most individual and the ones who have the most creativity. Since you can't exactly get a job looking like that, they wind up doing other things. The girl I knew who now works at the library helps support herself and her child by running a tattoo parlour and also an online website. Another one makes BANK from doing things like SG (not sure if you know what that is, but if curious, email me and I'll tell you...not something exactly appropriate for younger kids to even know the name of) and another also started her own business. Not sure of the guys. I've noticed a lot of them tend to be bikers though or work in car shops ^.^ LOL!

This reminds me so much of my HS days...
