Gather Round Me

I take my ghosts with me most everywhere
Round every corner they’re just lurking there
I catch them winking - smirking mirthlessly
I wave them off but they’re so hooked on me

In my mind’s hallways I rush aimlessly
Same relics haunt me and I can’t break free
Remembered places, faces dejavu
Guess I should know them - are they me
or are they you?


Gather round me now
Rewrite this story, make it work somehow
A plot twist here – a clever chapter there
Players playing me without a care

Gather round me do
Turn back the clock and let me start anew
I’ll be less kind – won’t lose my mind
Next time around I’ll make it through
So gather round me do

On second thought we only get one chance
To sing that song to dance that final dance
I’ll dream the dream tho’ smack in spite of fate
Just gather round me before it’s too late

Yeah, gather round me now

These are thoughts that go through all our minds. I get the feeling this poem is more of a song, a ballad maybe. I may be wrong but I think it could be put to music.

From time to time most of us would like to go back and change or rearrange or maybe just do it again. But as we know, and more forcefully as we grow older, the wheel only goes around once. While the rhythm is a little tight for me personally, the thought springs eternal. Hang in there! Wayne
