This was originally not a moon note, and it shoulda been. So there.
For those of you who haven't yet read my book Silver Millennium Soldier (or are unable to due to age restrictions), each chapter is embroidered with a sketch pertaining to one of the featured characters or scenes, painstakingly produced by Yours Truly. I've recently developed the habit of bringing my art and writing together in all my projects, and this book gave birth to an entire gallery of pieces I'd never have produced otherwise. Granted, they're all pencil sketches, and I wouldn't call them gourmet art, but I'm pretty proud of some of them.
Anyway, why am I posting this? Well, I'd been meaning to create a gallery for anyone who wanted to just browse my Sailor Moon sketchbook, but submitting the pictures to the regular galleries would spread them all over the site, and I really wanted them where everyone could see them together.
Since they're all based on the universe I created for my book, many of the characters underwent makeovers of different degrees, so don't throw any hissy fits if you don't recognize some of them. I also used models for a few of them when I needed inspiration, and I'll note those drawings accordingly.
This is the title image with my first attempt at the revised uniform. Not all that hot, really.
**********
Serena's new face, sporting significantly less ridiculous pigtails. I got carried away with the hair a little, so she looks more like a brunette.
**********
A nice view of her profile, plus what's probably the only time I've ever drawn the pesky cat. Haven't drawn a decent looking feline since. Dunno what happened.
**********
Darien Shields on his way to work. Or posing for a Sears catalogue. I'm not sure which. Based on a pic in the Sailor Moon galleries.
**********
I didn't leave Molly Baker out, either. Here she is being scammed by Morga. Subtle.
**********
Amy Anderson, posing somewhat timidly. I found her boring as a bookworm, so I went the tormented artist route.
**********
Rei Hino, the only one who retained her japanese heritage in the book , sporting miko outfit and looking all deep and contemplative. This is another I did based on actual Sailor Moon images.
**********
Rei spyin' on the bad guys. I've seen her in a lot of different casual outfits, so I drew her in my favorite one here.
**********
Rei practicing shinkendo katas, dressed in a standard kendogi. While I've been in that stance many times, I'm out of practice, so I turned to my kendo photo books for reference. Still haven't seen her smile yet, have we?
**********
Rei and Serena in eveningwear, enjoying each other's company.
**********
Lita Kaehler doing a bit of exercise (with Serena and Amy watching in the background). Praise to the artists of King of Fighters for helping me learn human anatomy.
**********
Amara Cristofis, AKA Uranus, having a smoke. She's not in Silver Millennium Soldier, but she's the main character in The Wind and The Rain, a little scene I wrote in the same universe which features this image.
**********
Tux got a Dumas-inspired makeover, with a Phantom twist. Unfortunately, P-n-P's pages don't support images larger than 600 pixels wide, so I don't have a decent-looking version other than this smooshed down one.
**********
Mina DeMarleaux's only picture is one of the best, kudos going out once again to my homies at the King of Fighters Art Department for their guidance. This is also the final version of the revised uniform, which is a mix of Roman gladiator getup and Norse Valkyrie armor. The gauntlets are of an English design. Now it has flair AND practicality in battle.
**********
Amy as Mercury, with a handful o' icy shuriken, providing a nice rear view of the revised armor. I started ditching the Mistress 9 pearl strings at this point.
**********
Rei as Mars in a classic samurai mural pose.
**********
Three valkyries ready to do some whoopin'. Mars looking as irritated as ever.
**********
Queen Beryl in all her elven glory. The bulk of this gallery came after I drew this, so she sorta gets credit for driving me to produce this little portfolio.
**********
The big bad guy of the book, Jedite, in a revised pose from the manga gallery. I tweaked his uniform with a little Victorian militia and a little Nazi Germany to give it more flavor; he looks a tad less like one of Darth Vader's subordinates now, I think.
**********
Jedite marching off to his final confrontation. The silhouettes behind him could be pretty much anybody, so use your imagination, I guess.
**********
Sailor Moon and Jedite getting acquainted.
Alternate version.
**********
Now for a few minion sketches. Here we have Captain Tethys, the water nymph serving as Jedite's second-in-command.
Considerably scarier rendition of Morga, the jewelry store wight.
And the Gemini twins, Castor and Pollox. Castor's on the left. Not that it really makes a difference.
**********
I hope you got something out of this tour today. I sure did. Carpel tunnel.

Excellent sketching! I especially liked the picture of Molly and I thought Queen Beryl was very well done too. Quite some nice and interesting interpretations of the uniforms too, quite like the gauntlets especially.
You drawing remind me a lot of Marvel comics and such. I really like them. Of course, the only criticism that I can think of is that the girls' faces aren't very feminine. Maybe rounding out the jaw a little or giving a hint of eyelashes, nothing major, would help distinguish between the somewhat 'pretty' males and the gals.
Otherwise, these are all really well drawn. thanks for sharing!
