Within The Beat Of A Heart
by John Mcleod
copyright 10-19-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

I wrote this poem for a friend who was ill, she never ever gave up on life and was determined to conquer her fears.

There is always hope in the face of danger, strength comes from within, comes from god, comes from friends.

For Karen...

Within The Beat Of A Heart

Fear pushed aside with angry hands
she refused to call it a day
there is so much to do, so much to see
the end will not be this way,

Seeing the pain with eyes opened wide
an enemy that must suffer this way
cut out the bastard who sneaked inside
who ate at the flesh, to her dismay,

Green lights flashing, signaling the end
the lions triumphantly growl at the dark
victory salutes for the winning strike
that was done within the beat of a heart.

This is a most outstanding, powerful wonderfully written tribute to your friend. The strength that flows through is incrediable. Very well written.

This is beautiful, John. A caring, thoughtful tribute to someone that suffered. Jackie
