Then I Turn To You

When night sleeps late
covered in gray mist
then I turn to you

when life feels like my trouser pockets
jingling nothing but small change
then I turn to you

I remember with such clarity
those few months ago
when each day was my birthday--you were the gift

present hours limp
in slow-motion shuffling
dragging me down onto the ground
where day-dreams live and die

hollow trees stand all around
like skeletons unmoving in the wind
the day stands still without a will

others cry to blue laments
or hide their dreams
in cloaking purple darkness
lying on their dying embers

I--I lie under a willow tree
Whiling away the hours
Wishing I could turn to you
when rainbows wane to colorless and
echoes of the day expend their strains
I thirst again to turn to you

Whenever a write can evoke as many sentiments as have been expressed, and those which I find within myself, as a result of reading this, it can only be because the author has opened up some doors or allowed through his skill and talent, to allow others to open those doors, it is the measure of a write well-done. I would rather leave my own discoveries within my own closet, with this write, for it touches on some rather poignant moments of my own that I'm too selfish to share with anyone. At least right now. Later....who knows? It may well be that this write might serve as an open door to a hallway down which there are ample treasures to share with everyone.

Thank you for this one, also. ^^

Awww, this is so sad and beautiful, love lost and remembered with all the sadness one feels when the love of their live has passed. I believe this poem to be true to live for you, is it? If so I have so much apathy and respect for a love so unique and missed!

...sorry, I have to disagree with Wayne a bit on this...I didn't find your poem melancholoy at all...more like wistful, nostalgic, a celebration of and thanksgiving for love...the use of metaphors are just terrific here...nice read...

Excellent read. Nice form. Seemed rather melancholy, yet with an undertone of hope.
Good stuff.

A deep poem, dedicated to the one who keeps life worth living.

Well done, Rich!

As always, your word choice is fantastic! The ways you expressed how whenever you feel horrible, there's always one way to go to feel better. I especially liked the third stanza; the last line was phenomenal. Just like every other, in truth!

Nice write!
