So You'd Remember
by Wayne Thomas (Age: 58)
copyright 04-18-2007

Age Rating: 13 to 127

I only wrote so you'd remember
some of what we've gone through
and some of what we've done.

Do you remember that year
at the Western Welcome parade
when yet another band of Scottish pipers
trod slowly past,
blowing like prophets of doom.

We decided to go for hot dogs,
and when you went to stand up
I reached out and touched your leg
and you were wearing nylons!

I didn't even know you WORE nylons;
I'd never even felt nylons before
and I was like, "Wow! This is cool!"
But you smacked my hand
and we went for hot dogs anyway,

and got back just in time
for the rodeo riders and all the horses'
and I dropped pickle relish on my shirt
and never even noticed
till you started giggling and pointing.

So I stuck out my tongue
and, with napkin right in front of me,
I dabbed at the mess with my handkerchief,
which you thought outrageously funny
while I silently berated myself
for a fool.

I was twelve then, you were eleven,
and that was how it all started--
our first date. Remember?

And now we're going gray together,
sitting on the couch, holding hands
while we listen to the ball game on the radio,
and I see that funny smile on your face

which means you're thinking about
something we said or did.
So come on. Share up!

And now I'm happy again,
because I only wrote this
so you'd remember.

Very loving and nostalgic. The emotions were portrayed in a light hearted but very moving way. It touched me very much.

May happiness always be yours.

Your friend,

Rich

This is so sweet and innocent and adorable and a bunch of other words that usually imply cuteness and such. Nylons are evil. For high school I was "forced" to wear them under my skirt, but I was a rebel and wore sweatpants. The administration wasn't happy about that, but what can they do? Sure, they made me take them off numerous times, but during my last year, they gave up. Anyway, I'm rambling on and on.

I really enjoyed this and read it over a few times. It's a fun read, thanks Wayne!

Wow! This sure brought back memories. I remember touching my girlfriend's leg, and she WASN'T wearing nylons. What a shock, but a wonderful one. Thanks for the memories.
