Some assume that rabbits are all basically the same. Not true, rabbits are not "rabbits," they are individuals with widely varying personalities. Some are very shy, others are outgoing. One will play with a ball for hours while another prefers to hide in paper bags or under towels.
Usagi is totally unimpressed with plastic balls with bells inside. He ignores them. The same is true for any chew toys. He prefers to chew forbidden things such as rugs. However if you toss a small towel over him he loves turning in all directions, peeking out several times. Paper bags are also a favorite of his. He won't come when called but if I lay on the floor he'll eventually wander over, sniff me from top to bottom and then put his front paws on me. After he's satisfied that I smell like me he'll lay down closeby, usually not next to me but within an arm's reach. He'll then crouch and lay his chin on the floor. This is a very obvious demand to be petted. Sometimes, when I'm working at the computer, he'll lay down where he can see me and patiently wait until I get down on the floor to play with him.
I've rolled balls to him but he again ignores them. "Gonna getcha" is a game he caught on to instantly. When I scratch the floor and intone, "Gonna getcha" he makes quick dashes often with a 'binkie" or two.
A "binkie?" Rabbits are very agile and can leap into the air, twist completely around and land facing the opposite direction or any direction in between. That's called a "binkie." Rabbits often do this for fun. In the wild it is used to confuse any predator chasing them.
My other rabbit, Thumper has a totally different personality. Where Usagi hates to be picked up, Thumper is far less upset by this. Thumper, true to her name often stomps her foot then runs like a rocket. Usagi seems to be copying this lately. Thumper also enjoys the "Bunny 500." She will circle the chair I'm sitting in and with each lap try to beat her previous time. Usagi's version is to tear off at high speed for his cage, run one lap in the cage then race to the other end of the area he is allowed for play. He'll usually repeat this mad dash a few times.
Usagi hates being touched on his belly or chin where Thumper enjoys that and will snuggle her head into your hand when you rub her chin or belly.
Thumper also takes more joy in toys. She has a baby's toy set of keys. She enjoys picking them up with her teeth then tossing them. She'll also often roll a ball around by pushing it with her nose.
Thumper also will chew and devour nearly anything. Instead of simply shredding an old phone book, Thumper actually eats the pages she rips out. Although Usagi will also chew, he seems to be more interested in sniffing everything rather than tasting it.

Well! These three chapters are tied together very nicely. From the informative, interest write of the first, through the more serious personally involved and scientific second, to this last chapter which turns your rabbits (perhaps even yourself) into something besides long-eared, funny-looking things that go hopping around in the Texas sage. Personalty, I would never have thought that a rabbit could be so delightful and charming, not to mention intelligent. And, without having read these pieces, I would have continued to remain ignorant. Something I abhor. However, again I think that Usagi should have been introduced properly to give him the importance and recognition deserved. Also, in the 2nd paragraph, last line, "...wander over sniff me...." isn't broken with a transitional word, e.g., "and" or "to." However as with the previous two chapters, this one is well presented, clearly told, and obviously gives us a picture of your genuine fondness as well as important information about rabbits. Thank you!
William :)
