“Are you sure you’re alright?” Philippe asked as he pressed a damp cloth against Charlotte’s head.
She nodded. “I’m fine,” she muttered. “I don’t know what just happened; I couldn’t look away. However, when he finally turned to face you--.”
“You lost control of your own well-being,” Kaitlin finished the statement for her. She knew all too well what that was like, since it had been over a year when Mariam attacked her.
Kaitlin stared hard at Philippe. “What on earth were you thinking leaving her alone like this? You knew he was out there lurking about!”
“I didn’t know he could come here uninvited.”
“That’s beside the point,” Kaitlin continued to scold. “She was nearly attacked because she was left unattended!”
“Kaitlin, please,” Lucien said calmly. “I’m sure he feels awful about what happened as it is. We have managed to save her life because of him.”
Kaitlin was silent for a moment before she nodded in reluctant agreement.
“You both may stay here until it is daylight,” Philippe said. “It is quite late now. I think Charlotte will need her rest.”
Charlotte gave him a strange look. “Not after what just occurred, I won’t.”
Lucien looked out the window. “She may not be, but you’d better find a place to rest; it’s nearly dawn.”
Philippe gave Charlotte a worried glance, who shook her head. “I’ll be fine. I’m sure he can’t hurt me in the daytime.”
“She’s right,” Lucien said. “He’s always sent me dreams as well. I doubt he’d be able to do so during the dawn.”
“No, he won’t,” Philippe said. “Not unless he wants to do so with me.” He turned to Lucien and Kaitlin. “You both should leave now. You’ll have your troubles with the police because of what happened at the library.”
Kaitlin rolled her eyes. “I completely forgot about that.”
Lucien took her hand in his. “Then I bid you a good evening, Philippe.” He hesitated. “I’m glad to have met you; it’s good to know you’re on our side.”
Philippe nodded, relieved to have Lucien’s trust.

It turned out that some bystanders close by the library called the police at the time of the “break-in”. The witnesses had a cell-phone to use to call the authorities.
The police didn’t suspect Kaitlin or Lucien since it was verified that two men, one of whom was wearing a dark, leather dress might have been the perpetrators at the scene of the crime. The head librarian was upset, but didn’t blame Lucien as he thought she would. If anything, she blamed herself for not getting any surveillance systems for the library.
Lucien was sent home for a few days; just until the library was straightened out for them to get back to work again.
The first thing he did was sleep: he slept for hours—well into the afternoon. Kaitlin took that as a good sign. It meant that he wasn’t having any dreams.
She, on the other hand, was unable to sleep. Too many thoughts were racing through her head. The one thing that kept popping into her mind was Philippe; especially about why he was after Damon. He had been upset that Damon destroyed Mariam: at least those were his words. If anything, that particular statement left Kaitlin confused.
Kaitlin went to the kitchen and made herself some coffee. Once she was done doing that, she would go on the internet and do some research about Philippe Lexieverre. There were some things she wanted to find out about him.
