24 Karats
by Jerry Lowery (Age: 46)
copyright 06-29-2007

Age Rating: 7 to 127

You know gold is valued according to its purity
And that purity is measured in karats 24 being the purest.
I was thinking what if people were measured the same way
10 karat gold has impurities added to make it the strongest,
yet still valuable.
10 karat people are the same way, they are very valuable
Yet life's impurities have hardened them so they feel
little and love even less.
14-karat people are a bit softer, yet in their minds softness
is a weakness so they hide it; allowing life’s little and most
precious pleasures to pass them by.
18 karat people are most special, they love everyone but
themselves, thinking that they have to be perfect in every
way. Not knowing that trying to reach perfection is the
one thing that keeps them from achieving it.
Then there are the 24 karat people, like pure gold they
Are soft, warm, and bend at the merest touch
They are the ones that realize that perfection does not have
to be in the body or mind, but only in the heart.
They know that love is the key to everything
So they give it openly, expecting nothing in return.
These people are very rare, but you will know one
When you meet one, their strength comes from within
Therefore it is ever growing

I like this poem. It reads well. I like how you compared gold and people, and I have the pleasure of knowing a 24 karat person. They are wonderful to be around, indeed.
I enjoyed reading it, and I didn't see anything really wrong with it, so good job! ^__^
