Rabbits as Pets
Usagi
by Robert Betts (Age: 61)
copyright 06-07-2007

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Here is Usagi a bunny I adopted on 1/19/2007.
He is a full grown (1 1/2 yrs. old) Netherland Dwarf and weighs only 1 lb. 14 oz:

In this movie clip you'll see that Bunnies often will "dance." This dancing is called a "binkie."

"Now where did I leave that..."

Usagi is with a Rabbit Rescue at the moment. He ate some fibers from a rug that I put in his cage for him to lie on. That was a serious mistake; rugs and rabbits don't mix. I was getting nowhere with treatment so I surrendered him to the Rabbit Rescue. At first I just couldn't talk about it because I thought I'd lost him forever. He is getting better and I hope he'll be home soon.

5/5/2007 Update: Usagi is home now and is frisky as ever. Yeah !!

Warning: Rabbits will steal your heart in practically no time at all. I've only had Usagi three months and he now owns my heart.

Usagi died on May 29 in the wee hours of the morning. I again can't talk about it. I love Usagi very much and he is sorely missed... In fact everyone who ever met him loved him. I got a card from the animal hospital where I took him. Twenty people had signed the card expressing sorrow that Usagi had died. There can never be another bunny quite like him.
