First Steps
by Leah G. (Age: 15)
copyright 08-19-2007

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Crying in bed waiting,
Dreading this new day .
Feels like there’s nothing to be done…
The world’s standing in my way.
Never spoken how I feel,
No one wants to hear what I say.
Procrastinating solutions-
Want it all to go away .

Keep on feeling sorry for myself,
‘Cause nothing I can achieve .
Never took the first step
Of trying to believe.
I hide myself, still ashamed,
But God I can’t deceive.
I can’t run away from troubles
If all I do is grieve.

The first steps are the hardest,
But the rest is all downhill.
You’ll never accomplish anything,
If you never have the will.
Things need to be done,
Destiny to fulfill…
Don’t keep on waiting-
Waiting just ‘till “until.”

You’ll never see the sunlight,
If you don’t get out of bed.
You won’t get anywhere,
If you never look ahead.
You’ll never reach your goal,
If getting there is what you dread.
The only thing that’s stopping you
Are the doubts inside your head.

Now push aside uncertainties-
Today’s the day you’ll win.
Since the first steps are the hardest,
You might as well begin.
Forget regrets that keep you back-
Stop holding it all in.
The only thing you’ll ever need
Is motivation from within.
