The Pain of Madness
by Natalie Amaral
copyright 10-24-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

I have been known
as what’s
called a madman.
I have been known
to do nasty things
with my life.
I make no excuses
for my actions.
Yet I can’t help
the madness that
goes one in my mind.

It started with my childhood;
I was the unwanted and unloved child.
If that wasn’t enough,
I was constantly mocked
at school

Finally,
in my teen years,
my sanity came
to a halt.
When I was
thrown into a dark closet
by those who were
supposed to love me.

It’s amazing how
one can go
from sanity
into madness
all due to abuse
and lack of love.

Read Sylvia Plath!!!

This poem is great catharsis for you, and the pain is understandable and universal. But to be a good poem it has to be unique. Work on the images. Take a piece of it, and make the reader feel what you feel.

Excellent poem Natalie. Very deep and powerful. Moving. And very true. Especially the last stanza.
