For The Homeless.

February 2, 2001
This is for the homeless....
May God bless their souls.
No where to go and no home.
No bathroom and no shower.
A spot in my heart for the homeless.
Shirts with missing buttons and pants with holes.
No where to go except for to roam.
Soup kitchen open in an hour.
Stopping people for a smoke or for a quarter.
Checking out trash cans.
Any thing to stop the hunger.
Riddled with hunger pangs.
No help, no supporter.
Standing near the burning barrel to warm their hands.
Some old , some younger.
Hiding what little possessions from street gangs.
At night it seems the hardest.
Trash can for a pillow , cardboard for a blanket.
If lucky you live under a bridge.
Thinking to myself how lucky can I be?
At night when it seems the coldest...
Thinking of these people with regret.
Couldn't imagine living under a bridge.
Why is it that no one wants to see?
I haven't much but what I have I will give.
The change from my pocket.
A few blankets here and there.
Whatever I can do.
In hopes that these people will live.
For a minute that they can forget.
To show them someone cares.
Could I ask the same of you?
This is for the homeless...
God bless their souls.

Barb, I feel for these people, I know some people think that they like living this way but they do not. The society that we live in does not do enough to help them. I never refuse to help these people with money if they ask, I just wish that I had enough to pay for houses for them.
The government can, but greed gets in the way.
