Blue sky at evening,
deepening to violet--
warm red sun reflects
across the quiet lake--
trees of all sorts and sizes
turn to shadows in the gloaming--
See the boy walking home the
horses from the pasture--
talking to them as though
he expected an answer--
(and who's to say they don't provide?)
I watch as he brings them down the hill,
stare while he produces
a treat for one and all
as they disappear into the barn--
Violet deepens to indigo
and a smattering of stars
parade with half a moon
across the suddenly chilly heavens--
And I--even I--
saunter down to the light,
dig out my notebook,
and caress the page with this poem.
haiku:
the slow dark turtle,
covered in weeds, pokes along,
snatching a cricket--

This is so fine! So good! Filled with imagery, motion, movement, color, sound, texture, emotion, and still maintains a pastoral quiet throughout. And I think the Haiku at the end, fits it--and you--perfectly. But it does the one thing best, that any good write should do--it beguiles and captures the reader, immediately, and gently leads them through your story at your pace. Good work, this!
