I don't want to be forgotten
I don't want to be alone
I'm sorry if I'm whining
I'm sorry if I moan

I don't want you to forget me
I don't want to be replaced
I can see that you love him
But don't forget my face

He's nice and smart
He knows just what to say
But how long have you known him
Don't let it end this way

I feel left out when you laugh
The jokes I don't know
I try to understand
But love is something I don't know

I've never been hugged like that
Never been kissed
I've never felt in love
I feel like I'm not being missed

But we have overcome this
As close as we were
I've gotten to know him
I'm the one who forgot, what kind of person you were

I'm sorry for ever thinking that
That You'd replace me.
But in the end all that happened
Was someone else came in

The great thing about a poem like this is how it lends itself to different, but equally valid, interpretations. My take was a young girl expressing her fear of being replaced in her mother's affections by a new man in the mother's life. I loved the last line, which was a beautiful resolution of both the poem and the narrator's struggle with the situation. Wonderful poem!
