The Mirror
by Everett (dale) Pogue
copyright 09-19-2007

Age Rating: 10 to 127

I was seated near the dressing room my wife was in.
Across from me was a large, full-length mirror.
An old man, strangely familiar, stared back at me.
Where was I? My image should be in that mirror!

I'm a much younger man of thirty-five or forty
with flat stomach and lots of dark brown hair;
a younger man with exciting hopes and dreams,
one able to run and dance and take on the mountains.

Who is that gray-haired old man watching me
with sad, tired, aging eyes?
I no longer could tolerate his incessant stare,
So I moved.

Dale,
You are rapidly becoming a favorite poet of mine here at PnP. This was an intiguing way of expressing your feelings about growing old. Why, just the other day this old codger was in my mirror smiling back at me where I am positive there was a much younger more debonaire guy only a few years back. Liked this one alot!

Best Regards,
Lyle

This was really wierd...I LOVE IT
Description was very detailed and good, and it told the story perfect of life, and about how the mirror never holds the truth. Or does it?
I didn't see any errors, and the length was pretty short.
However when i was reading this i felt like something was missing, something more you wanted to say, but that wasnt put down on words
Very good poem, i loved the emotion

*cute little childish smile that makes the god-awful baby face something good for such a rare occasion* While I can't relate to this, I found it entertaining! Seems the others didn't much like the ending...personally, it make me laugh a bit.

Although it's rather random, poems about aging always remind me of how I thought one of my best friends was an old geezer perv when I first met him. I was all, "O_O You're...19?" when I learned his age. XD He's 21 now but I won't say who since I like keeping secrets. ^-^

But the point of that little is exactly as stated in the first line. Good work on this one, keep it comin'!

The question is:
How fast did you move LOL?

This piece is up to your excellent standards, I'm glad you keep setting a bar for me to reach up to.

The theme was wonderful. I like your varied themes very much.
