Jabberwocky
by Frank Fields
copyright 10-14-2007

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Author's Note: I take no credit for this work. It belongs to, and was written by a writer of some repute and fame. Far more talented and skilfull than I could ever hope to be. Every now and then a writer needs to interject something so totally ridiculously serious into his/her life that the true path is found again. For me, this one did it. Allow me to share it, here.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

*crash* I am definitely asking him where in hell he heard of a Jabberwocky... Though Lewis Caroll does sound vaguely familiar. But English class has been shoving so many poems by old dead people down my throat who knows. X.X

Anyway, this was an interesting poem! I can see why you'd like it since it has the fantasy touch you've become popular for. :) The theme was interesting and overall idea entertaining.

Amusing! The Jabberwocky still lives! It has been a long time since I have read this poem and even longer since I could remember any of the words to it. It is ridiculous yet amusing and a reminder that to live an interesting life one has to stop and appreciate a few of the stranger things. This is definitely one of those strange things that has to be read and re-read to be fully appreciated.

Thanks for posting it here. It made me remember the good old days of reading this poem for the first time. I may actually read some of his other poems. Thanks again!

Life and heart do play in a mathematical way, with English and song at bay to a great play in smith and understanding, it is good to beware life can be such a drag unless we see the wag of tales before are time, great stuff and reminder.. Walt
