Dear Daddy
by Kaitlin Crum (Age: 18)
copyright 10-18-2007

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Dear Daddy,
You came home today.
We waited at the airport for you.
They brought you in a pretty box.
Mommy collapsed.

Dear Daddy,
We had your favorite dessert.
I wish you could've been here.
I saved you a piece,
for when you come home.

Dear Daddy,
Today was your wake.
I tried to lay down next to you,
but gram-gram wouldn't let me.
Mommy cries for you every night.

Dear Daddy,
Your funeral was very sad.
The priest said you were happy in heaven.
Everyone was crying.
I tried not to cry.

I know you don't like it when I'm sad.
When are you coming home?

Dear Daddy,
I started school today.
Kids laughed at me.
It made me sad.
Mommy says your my guardian angel.

Can I come up and visit you in heaven?

Dear Daddy,
It's bedtime.
I wait for you to come and read me a bedtime story.
I cry myself to sleep at night,
just like mommy.

We miss you so much daddy.

I left the light on,
just in case you come home.
i love you daddy.

Very touching while showing the innocence of children. It made me thing of my deceased Daddy and how much I miss him.

Kaitlin: Your poem touched this old guy. The scene was captured well. The loneliness and confusion is also there, as it is with a little girl.
I hope you were thinking of an imaginary someone, but far too often this scene is being lived out today. You made me think about it. Thanks. Dale
