Sigh the sigh of lover’s last
To covet sunlit days of past;
Mourn for sweetness lost to pain,
And weep in grief for fair foe’s gain.
Laughter gold to silver tears—
A sorrow shroud so lacelike sheer;
Glory bled from white-winged bliss:
The honeyed death of poison kiss.
Deaf to end of night lark’s strain:
Sparked passion razed and pleasure slain;
Parted swift by seafoam vast
And wounds cut deep from crimson glass.
Voice and song across the mist
To drink the dew of broken tryst;
Torrent black to taint the clear
And embers stirred to flaming fleer.
Aching throb of ardent tune:
A darkness born from infant moon;
Softly sob to greet the depths,
And yearn in vain for gasping breath.
Hushed heart asleep within the breast:
The lifeless soul now laid to rest.
