Get rid of the deadwoods
And all the worms that crawl your skin
It's no use of raking something
In undergrowth of decaying green
Withstand the withered weather
Nurture your garden with sweat and time
If you do hummingbirds will follow
Purple orchids will blossom with a smile
And when seeds sprout you must promise
To till the soil with your bare hands
Water the violets and trim the roses
Let the bees and monarchs pollinate
So that when sizzling sun propagates
You can enjoy the lilies of the pond
But you must remember the deadwoods
That you decimated in springtime
It will come back to haunt and get you
If you don't tend the green all year round.
