A Crystal Ball

My love and I
saught out a fortune teller
our destined future to foretell
her crystal ball so polished
to cast our love so well
charging a reasonable fee
for a destiny shining so bright
like light from a glittering lake
dancing through time and space on
silver clouds and bright-colored rainbows
love like a sepulchral sheep
quietly went to sleep
the peacock lost his lovely plumes
the wild geese flew way off course
It's easy to feel when you've been damned
you want to believe in the opium dream
turning to the now clouded crystal ball
despairing of finding that lost reflection again

Sometimes I think our entire lives are nothing more than gazing in a crystal ball and chasing the experience of the first knowledge of anything we've known that brought us pleasure. Even though we'll never find it. This work speaks to me very strongly that way. Thanks, Rich. Chessie told the tale.
I must say that you've written something very interesting. The last stanza is incredibly strong. It really pulls the entire work together as it reveals that the fortune-teller and her crystal ball are more than they appear to be. I also really enjoyed the imagery. Excellent as always. I would expect nothing less from you, Rich. :)
Keep up the great writing.
