A Christmas Visitor

It was well after dark but I couldn't leave
the half-finished essay for Christmas Eve.
A soft rap at the door and I answered, "Come in".
There stood a visitor, bearded and thin.
"I need something to eat and a place to stay.
I'll be gone from here on Christmas Day.
You must know, I'm not Christian; Jewish by birth.
My family I left. I have nothing on earth."
We went to an inn nearby for a meal
and a bath and bed; his thanks I could feel.
The talk I had started ended up not the same
after meeting the stranger who gave me no name.
" Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:2. This is a
true story that happened to the author.

This beautiful poem of yours really read like a parable and the heart wanted more because I read it at one go as if flowing with the lines.
Yes, my friend, you are right that one does not know when angles appear and what we do to them.
Good deeds will always remain with us.
I salute you.
Bless you
Rajasir
I would call this a parable as well as a poem; it indeed was great and I absolutely love the meaning. This goes into the meaning of loving your neighbor as yourself. Excellent work!!!
A beautiful poem filled with the message of Christmas, Christ and Christianity.
Technically your usual excellent rhyme and rhythm
were present.
This poem is a ten star poem and well deserved to win the contest.
Don't you just wonder, when you see needy people or people damaged in some way out on a city street (especially in Winter) if their not here to help us find the better angels of our nature?
It's too bad we can't have the "Christmas Spirit" all year long. Well written piece that makes one realize that you never know who you might help, or turn away.
I really liked this. It had great rhymes, flow, mood, rhythm, and descriptions. I loved the story, it makes me really think about the "Christmas spirit." it's already half way until Christmas, and it doesn't feel like it! You told this story beautifully. And the quote from the end really is a nice addition- it makes me wonder...
Very sweet. I believe he was an angel. He came down to visit and remind you of the true meaning of the Holidays - and then you reminded us! This is how the other side works with us - they are closer than you know! Beautiful.
Very entertaining, especially because it's true.
Totally heartwarming. The spirit of Christmas definitely shines through here, as does your kind and gentle personality.
