Hero's of Today

by Cassie Sweeney (Age: 20)

It started on September 11, 2001
When the planes hit,
After all the damage,
We knew it wouldn’t quit.

Immediately after the attack,
Troops went off to fight.
Guarding during the day,
With no sleep at night.

But soon it would get out of hand.
Who knew it would be this bad.
The killing, and dead bodies,
It was devastating, all too sad.

Their loved ones left at home,
Their men they are forced to share,
They know they're husband's duty,
But their hearts scream it's not fair.

Defending our country,
They still stand today.
Though risking their lives,
They know there’s no other way.

They keep our freedom,
And when we lay down to pray,
Let us always remember,
These are the hero's of today.

Hooah, I say! Great piece. It's great to know that there are still people out there who respect soldiers and recognize that they are working for a good cause. You are the kind of person who motivates us to do our jobs, the ones who really deserve to be fought for. Keep it up!

Ah, I remember this piece; still a wonderful read, even all these years later. Very good work; the flow and rhymes are excellent. Thank you for the contest entry! I shall be judging within the week after the deadline.

Curiously, I wonder about the date and does it tie to 9/11 and if so, how? Also the motivation for bringing this back 2 years later. Not that there's anything wrong that, of course. Just some stray thoughts that sometimes get in the way of my addressing a work at hand. Which is a very fine work and creates images and emotions that are appropriate to that tragedy and what not only this country and its people, but the whole world is having to live with as a result.

I like this write, it gets a good flow into it. The topic is no stranger to me. There are lots of things that surrounds nine-eleven that it gives me a head ache.
I've heard that the Nine-eleven was made to happen to create a never ending war with terror. This is kind of sad, since we're not really fighting anybody at all.
I'm not really sure what to believe anymore, a lot of people send mixed signals and the government of the USA isn't really reliable regarding the truths of any kind of incidents.

I'm around 20 years old and I'm not really that involved concerning government issues, but the way things are going stepping up will be beneficial choice for all the younger generations to try and rectify the screw up the previous-gens have made, and hope to best we won't end up like them.
