A Winter Thought
by John Mcleod
copyright 10-28-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Icy fingers hang from the doorway
biting wind snaps at exposed flesh
cold reminders of natures temperament
winter colds surface once again,

Snowflakes floating like ships on a breeze
changing the scenery creating white trees
snowmen appear all over the land
childlike sculptures made by hand,

Frozen lakes where many people skate
slipping and sliding doing figure of eight's
sledges speeding down gentle slopes
picking up speed on the hard packed snow,

Winter always reminds me of Christmas
a time filled with love and happiness
family gatherings, we meet once again
opening gifts that were gladly sent,

Yes! Winter is a time I like
despite the cold and fear of frostbite
the beauty that the winter brings
cannot be replaced by anything,

Winter nights in front of the fire
the flames flicker and dance
captivating the cozy audience
burning brightly just for us,

Soon the winter will be gone
thawing will start and carry on
the beautiful white carpet will fade away
spring will return, it is on it's way.

EXCELLENT! I love the flow, the rhythmn and the images. This poem absolutely came ALIVE for me! I found myself reading faster and faster, envisioning myself going down the big ski hill on intertubes with my friends (which we used to do in high school). You made the bitter cold of winter something fun to look forward to. =o)

Lovely images, I must agree, a beautiful season. The blanket of white makes things seem more peaceful too...
