Understanding
by John Mcleod
copyright 10-28-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Cryptic clues will never do
just tell it to me straight
a bird in hand or a man on land
mean absolutely nothing to me,

Kept in the darkness I don't like the blankness
of as message that has no logic
write some words that I can pronounce
and the meaning will become apparent,

Hidden agendas you can keep
show me something I can see
coded letters on edible papers
I do not really want to see,

If you have something to say tell it in a way
that I may understand
don't beat around the bush just tell me the truth
and everything will be OK,

Obscure messages or subtle hints
could mean something else
to avoid confusion dismiss the illusion
that I know you as well as myself.

Great poem John. In real life, I tend to be very direct which my boss doesn't appreciate for some reason. I also tend to "circle-talk" but everyone is used to it. However, my writing.....you know I love to use symbolism. Create the images only you will see because the symbols I use mean one thing for me and another for you. Still, I am a believer in being "straight" - I totally hate head games. Enjoyed reading this very much.

John, I liked this...says, "Please, just spit it out!" which is my favorite saying cause I have a lot of friends who like to ramble...:O)

Straightforward is best for me too, John. I cannot be sure I am thinking the way the other guy is, in my Irish way of thinking I usually take a different slant on things.....

Outstanding, I love this.

I like how you rhyme your words. It has a natural rhythm to it. I also like the message--it's pretty clear in the poem.
