Daddy
by Jim Duprie (Age: 61)
copyright 01-15-2008

Age Rating: 13 to 127

I knew him first when I was six,
He took me to school that day.
He left me there, a tear in his eyes,
with other kids to play.

I met him again at age thirteen,
as he spoke of strange worldly things.
I knew not what he said back then,
for I was still so young.

He came around once more at twenty,
to help support and guide me.
But I was smarter, so I thought,
and my learning would not be.

I began to realize, as I grew older,
and reached my later years.
That all along, he had been right,
and smarter than I credited he.

Then one day I wanted to thank him
for all he had tried to do.
I looked for him and soon found out,
that God, he now resides with you.

I learned a valuable lesson that year,
through God or maybe just fate.
You must always tell the ones you love
before it is too late.

This is a very sad story and I hope you are OK. My father was a traveling salesman when I was young. Then he was never around much. I did not have a great relationship with him, but he is still my dad. I will miss him when he's gone! This was easy to read for the most part and I enjoyed the story, Anthony

Jim: You nailed that one! I guess most of us have been there. Good to write a reminder like that. It was well done and brought a pang of regret. Thanks, Dale
