Yes Dear
by Anthony Lane Stahlhut (Age: 47)
copyright 01-19-2008

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Wish you didn't,
but I guess you did.
Now to that closet,
where the secrets hid.
The way they twirl,
the way they sit.
The purses they carry,
every things in it!

Two hours dressing,
rollers and curls.
All of it matching,
come on you girls!
The whining and crying
to get what you see.
No thought of the cost,
just give the money.

Dresses for winter,
new skirts for the spring.
Whatever they're wearing,
it's the latest thing.
High heels for dinner,
flats worn to class.
Don't show what we're feeling,
Walking on broken glass.

Some learn the secret.
You must crawl first, to walk.
Be sure to listen
and you might get to talk.
It sucks to be lonely
you'll want to keep them near.
So the answer to life's question
ends with, "Yes Dear!"

(My wife has made me a much better man. She loves me because I make her laugh and cry....sometimes at the same time.)

Hello again,

This cracked me up as it rings, so true. I have three daughters and my husband always had empty pockets during the years all of us lived under the same roof. Universal story - fun reminder of those times.

A writer works the audience and picks the words careful to find the full value and bring on the emotions needed to be alive and enjoy, well done..

Certainly a familiar ring to these words! Good to read some of your work. I haven't been on this site for several years, so there are lots of new writers for me to get aquainted with.

Anthony: Yep! Sounds like you've been there and done that. I have news. It gets slower and more complicated with the years. Sometimes there is enough time to read a book or write a poem. One of mine called "The Mirror" was written during a wait session. It is worth the wait. Good poem. Dale
