A Poem For You
by Mike Gallimore (Age: 58)
copyright 01-28-2008

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Esto es un poema para ti.
This is a poem for you.

These words are flowers freshly gathered
and carried to your door on summer days.

These words are echoes from our distant youth
that whisper in your ear on autumn days.

These words are woven from the warmest fleece
and laid upon your lap on winter days.

These words are shafts of sunlight breaking cloudy skies
to catch you unaware on lenten days.

These words are nothing but my poor attempt to say I love you.

Notes:
(1) Any suggestions for improving the Spanish will be greatly appreciated.

(2) The common Old English word for the season following winter was "lencten", "lengten" or "lenten". The Christian association did not attach to lent until around 1060. Notice the similarity with our word "lengthen," which is what spring days do.

Interesting, softly beautiful piece. Should melt the hardest heart. I can't check the Spanish for you, but the English is great.
