Dear Diary

It's early morning
my dog demands his walking
the medication won't take effect for a couple of hours
scooter's waitin'
let's go Buddy

on the ultimate spring day
blowing with fragrant flowers' breeze
we whiz along the neighborhood
at a breathtaking eight miles per hour

we would win no medal
he would win no dog show
there was a day perhaps
not today at any rate

every street greets us
with warm and smiling friends
arms waving like swaying golden wheat
then it's back to my recliner
sitting patiently at home

where a best friend awaits us
my attractive loving wife
whose beauty can not diminish
the many ways she cares for me

among them a tasty lunch
afterward most afternoons find me
spending time with
long lost civilizations
philosophies poetry
essays of like-kind

quite a different life now
I should have read life's fine print
when I gave my knees to sports
skiing and baseball by the way

tonight my love and I will eat
touch by candlelight
and I will have no legs
to tie me down to earth
and we can float among the clouds
my love and I
