The Unkept Promise
by Richard Reed Jr
copyright 03-09-2008

Age Rating: 10 to 127

ripped the heart within our love
smashed the forged links of her trust
cut the bonds sewn by life
allowed the one called death
to walk right in

he began to do what he does best
cast a pall upon our world
bearing a casket
carrying two hearts
forever out of tune
embalmed with iciness

once bid no measure
of regret can stay death's
curtain-darkness
his ferryman takes no bribe

relentlessly he erased
our love story from life's page
he spread his wetting wings
and buried me beneath a willow
placed her high and bright
as princess in the starry night

death, the last promise broken
the last promise kept
