Rummaging through piles...
Years stacked up
One
On top
Of the
Other...
Searching for answers
To questions
That apparently
Weren't filed therewith...
Perched atop this heap
Of biography,
Wanting to dissect
The intestines of my soul.
An autopsy self-ordered,
To be performed
On the annihilation
In my past...
Speculation about the present
And the apprehension
Of the future.
Wishing I could tighten the reigns
On my thoughts
That tend to run wild.
Longing for contentment,
Wishing I could forget what I remember
And remember what I forget.
For all my haunting memories to fade,
Each regret to mellow,
Every sorrow to evaporate
Into thin air...
I fall freely
Descending wistfully into the dimness
Of my faith...
Past yesterday's hopes... beyond time-worn dreams
And age-old, moth-eaten confidences...
Above me bygone promises hover
Abandoning further attempts of allurement.
Eventually I touch down
Settling far below my past...
Time spent analyzing all that
I have come through...
Ropes of braided pain
That used to hold me back
Ultimately
Begin to unravel.
I begin to draw on a reservoir
I didn't know I had...
I will need it for the long journey
Ahead
For I realize
Now...
The only way is up.
